7. But you must admit that the majority of
Football fans aren't really multi-taskers. Of course I am neither a football fan or a multi-tasker so wtf do I know...

I do know they are slipping some serious shit under the radar while we are paying attention to other less serious things...

3. Almost as dangerous as John Kerry
but enough about the clampdown, let's talk about Kerry.

Seriously, tho, I think the two may be more related than you think ("spineless dems" vs. the facists).

the facists have their fingers on the proverbial button, and there's growing evidence they intend to use their tremendous power against its own people. As we're approaching endgame, look at it like our party leaders negotiating with kidnappers who have taken hostages. The GOP has kidnapped democracy, and while our leaders are taken to the task of "saving us" - there is a very serious gun being held to our heads.

This list showing our expressway to facism happens to be accelerating at the same pace as justice is chipping away at the cabal. I'm beginning to think that the "nuclear option" should be taken a bit more literally when the threat is uttered.

6. KERRY KERRY KERRY! ~ MARCIA MARCIA MARCIA!
:P

Thanks for the article. I'd LOVE to change the subject. I do hope we can fix the elections so we have a democracy again. THAT we all agree on.

9. This stuff is happening so fast I can't keep up with it!
And I read DU, Smirking Chimp, and lots of other sites all the time, try to stay up on what's happening, and it's just overwhelming! And to try to tell others about it is also difficult, partly because some of it -- actually most of it -- seems so f-ing unbelievable!

So many questions come to mind:

How can this be happening?

Are ALL our elected (or selected) representatives in on this?

Or are the Dems really against it but powerless because they are in the minority?

Are all the Republicans for this stuff? If so, do they think they and theirs are immune? If they remain in lockstep, perhaps they will be immune, but if they step out of line, won't they be as vulnerable as those of us who refuse to go along?

And the most important question: IS THERE ANY WAY BUSH CAN BE STOPPED?? I mean, who decided he was God? Besides him and the members of SCOTUS who helped appoint him?

Sorry, I feel almost helpless in the face of all this. I don't mean I'm just going to curl up in a ball and give up (though at times it's tempting because it's so tiring to keep fighting sometimes). I'll keep fighting, I'll keep talking about this to others, I'll keep doing what I can, but it just seems so little in the face of such enormous treachery.

Is there any chance that at least some of this shit can be reversed once Bush and his cabal are out of there? Or are we on an unstoppable trajectory to hell?

12. I think we need to create a primer
To pass out to people with sources. The more sources (both lib and conservative) the better.

Print them out and leave them all around town. Ride the bus? Bring some on the bus and leave them on seats. Your local free paper vendors? Leave a stack in there. Local coffee shop? Leave a stack there. Walk the neighborhood and throw them in mailboxes. Just spread the message.

Where ever we can leave them, do it.

13. Here's the way I deal with it:
Edited on Sat Nov-05-05 10:36 PM by KoKo01
They have proven themselves incompetent time and time again. They can't even get a conviction for all the supposed "terrorists" they keep bringing up for trial in the US.

They showed their total incompetence during Katrina, Rita and the recent hurricane in Florida. They can't keep us safe they can't bring "Freedom and Democracy" to Iraq (they just keep bombing the hell out of the country) they can't restore order to Afghanistan...they can't recruit enough troops and are relying on paid mercenaries and folks they drag off the streets to keep troop strength even minimal in Iraq.

If they can't do anything, with organization and competence, how are they going to impose "Martial Law" and find ways that we all can figure out as to how to "disable" their "monitoring chips" in passports and wherever else they put them.

They are incompetent...can't manage anything except by Bullying and Instilling fear in folks from Bird Flu Pandemics (get your duct tape and plastic sheeting ready) to the Media crap we see with Cop Shows and Victims and Terror/Terror EVERYWHERE.

They are Incompetent Bullies. They use a "whip" to keep us groveling and fearful of what they might do next.

I'm not saying that the laws they are ramming through, won't have consequences down the road. And, I don't know why the hell most of our Dems seem to be spineless.. but, I think this can and will be overturned because throughout Civilization...when it gets bad enough "THE PEOPLE THEMSELVES" stand up and rebel and defy the King or Dictator.

We just have to keep working at it. Exposing everything they do and urging our fellow Americans to stand up. In the end, though....they are incompetent. The "Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight" so they "shoot themselves in the foot and in the leg and in the arm and pretty soon they've blown their brains out. Just my 2 Cents.

18. Your comments are worth more than 2 cents...
And the echo things I think of sometimes too. Incompetent Bullies is certainly an accurate term for them, and I do think their ideas are bigger than their ability to pull them off.

It's just that when I read a compilation of those ideas, as as they were presented in the Smirking Chimp article, it feels like a tidal wave of despair washing over me. Thanks for reminding me of the other side of the story!

23. You mention marshal law and that gives me images
of Americans fighting Americans. First thought is ridiculous, but we did it during the civil war. Only this a.m. I was discussing how impossible it is to think that Iraqis would fire on other Iraqis. Some obviously do and they are probably Saddam's loyalist. Iraqis appear to fight those that have taken our side and when our troops along with Iraqi military go barging into homes this makes for bad politics.

Where am I going with this I'm not sure but you make good points in how ineffective this bush govt. really is and I do believe the majority here will truly rebel. Let's hope we are just being over dramatic, reading too much bad sh-t on this site.

16. john Who?
You mean we're sliding towards fascism?

You mean there are Iraqi children being blown to bits daily?

You mean..oh forgey it...

Can't I just stay focused on various multi-millionaire plutocrats and the politics of celebrity?

Mike Whitney has been on fire for the last two months, particularly since NOLA-Katrina, pumping out incredible articles virtually screaming at Americans to wake the fuck up to the police state.

Read all his articles you can.

21. It really, REALLY is
That's how these people operate - they control what information we have access to, and shape the world so that they have all the power. We are witnessing christian corporate fascism in action. :(
