Help for you when you find the "But he loved Jesus" People (Topic: Poor)
Edited on Sat Nov-05-05 10:36 AM by Ioo
I have before, and I want to do it again, post some bible scripture for you to be able to go to when you get one of those "I love Bush because he is a Christian" crap...

Please know, I am no longer a Christian, the faith and I parted ways many moons ago. I am a real live witch. I was raised Mormon, and was in the priesthood. I am not in any way putting down Christians, in fact if most Christians would live their lives as Christians this world would be a far better place.

I post this for a few reasons, and I admit, some are purely personal. I hate hypocrites! I also believe that the only way to get these people to see the light is to use a light they understand. Lastly, and this is purely personal, it is hard to say that the left is “ungodly” if we can, when needed, use the bible to prove a point. I want to give you the tools to combat this administration. The Christians have allowed then to co-opt their faith for political gain, we will help to give it back to them, and win while we do it, educate while we do it, and change some minds.

I have some good ones today!

" He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want." (proverbs 22:16)

" Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them." (proverbs 22:22-23)

" Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard." (proverbs 21:13)

" The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it. " (proverbs 29:7)

"For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right." (Amos 5:12)

" If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." (James 2:15-17)

" A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish. Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes. (proverbs 19:9-10)

"If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." (James 1:26-27"

" Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. (Job 29:12)

EDIT: to de-smile it.

1. Isn't Proverbs 22:16 about spanking?
I've got to get some of that Bible Quote memorization software.

Either that, or a spanking.

:spank:

2. Bono says there are over 2,000 allusions to the poor in the NT.
I may be paraphrasing him wrong.

I've obviously read the NT (I am a Christian), but I was struck by that. I seriously am starting to believe that Republicans and those who thump the bible either haven't read it, or read exclusively the OT and Paul's letters. So thanks for providing some quotes from their favorite books, LOL, some they actually may run across!

The actual gospel of Jesus Christ is a far cry from what these people are about, as I'm sure most on DU know.
