So, somehow I've become the resident "tech-guy" in my small office (10 people). Not that I really should be - I certainly don't know that much about computers. But nonetheless, I apparently know more than the average bear.

One of our employees (obnoxiously pro-GOP, although she couldn't make a convincing case without her Bill O'Reilly talking points), had some computer problems this AM. She asked for my help (as if I really have a choice). So I went to her computer and did what I could. I really didn't do anything amazing - just booted it down and back up, cleared the cache, checked her anti-virus, rebooted the server, stuff like that. The problem went away so I declared victory and went back to my desk.

Anywow, later she discover that her homepage (www.foxnews.com) woldn't load... Everything else worked, and you can even get to fox from every other computer (not that you'd want to). I joked and said "perhaps your computer won't lean that far to the right..."

Now, I swear... I SWEAR... that I didn't do anything to make this happen (as if I'd know how to...), but now she can't get to her Kool-Aid and thinks I've sabotaged her computer!

Hahahaha !

And to top it all off.... I put her explorer on freerepublic.com to "tide her over"...LOL... mostly as a joke. She had no idea what FR was and assumed it was some left-wing website. She threw a fit, saying "WHAT IS THIS CRAP YOU'VE LEFT MY COMPUTER ON?!?!" and made a complete moron out of herself.

I'm kinda in the same position as you with about the same size company, kinda the IT guru though the last time I saw a IT classroom the internet was a gleam in Al Gore's eyes (inside DU joke).

And I swear the koolaid white collar users are the dumbest.

Fun part for me is I monitor the spam that comes in to this company. A lot of the RW crap gets caught in the spam filter and I feel my job description does not entail retrieving that crap and whitelisting the senders. Hey if you want to get that crap get an email address that's not your corporate address!

Fun part is seeing that my boss is one of the bigger koolaid drinkers.

In her c:\windows folder there should be a file named "hosts". edit this file in notepad, add the following line to the end of that file:

216.158.28.199 www.foxnews.com

save the file and close notepad.

This will send her to www.democraticundnerground.com when she types www.foxnews.com in her browser.
