69% Of Americans Call Libby Charges “Serious Crime”
http://www.angus-reid.com/polls/index.cfm/fuseaction/viewItem/itemID/9686

(Angus Reid Global Scan) – Many adults in the United States express concern over the alleged involvement of Lewis Libby in the leak of an undercover Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer’s identity, according to a poll by TNS released by the Washington Post and ABC News. 69 per cent of respondents believe the charges against vice-president Dick Cheney’s chief of staff represent a serious crime.

On Oct. 28, special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald announced that Libby had been indicted on one count of obstruction of justice, two counts of perjury, and two counts of making false statements. According to the indictment, Libby lied to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents and a federal grand jury about his conversations regarding the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame with both Time reporter Matthew Cooper and Tim Russert of NBC News.

Plame is married to former ambassador Joseph Wilson, who in July 2003 wrote an op-ed in the New York Times that severely criticized the Bush administration for its claim that Saddam Hussein’s regime had sought to purchase uranium from Niger.

In a statement, vice-president Dick Cheney said he accepted Libby’s resignation "with deep regret," adding that his former aide must be "presumed innocent." U.S. president George W. Bush said the "investigation and ongoing legal proceedings are serious," adding, "We’re all saddened by today’s news."

2. I'm glad to know that a good majority of Americans recognize
the seriousness of this matter and are not falling for the spin/lies put out there by the administration apologists.

Its going to backfire on them if the keep downplaying the seriousness of the Plame case, smearing Wilson and claiming that no real crimes were committed.
