Denver votes toward Free Cannabis For Everyone
The voter iniative to legalize laughing grass has passed in the Mile High City- http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread21252.shtml

Denver, Colorado -- A measure that would legalize adult possession of small amounts of marijuana in Denver was approved by voters Tuesday, following a heated campaign that saw pot backers accused of exploiting residents' fear of crime.

The measure was leading by more than 7,000 votes with just over 100,000 votes counted when the Rocky Mountain News called the contest.

The central theme of Initiative 100, the Alcohol-Marijuana Equalization Initiative, is that adults should have the right to legally choose marijuana, because it's a safer alternative to booze, which supporters argue — citing national and local studies — fuels violence, deadly car wrecks, collegiate binge-drinking and alcoholism.

While other big cities, such at Seattle and Oakland, Calif., have passed laws making adult pot use a low police priority, supporters say passage I-100 would make Denver the first major city to legalize adult possession of 1 ounce or less of marijuana.

14. For real
I think adults should be able to have it. As long as they're not harming anybody else.

7. Medical too
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 12:44 AM by Traveling_Home
WE had passed a statewide medical marijuana law also. These all get fouled up with the SCOTUS ruling that had the Fed laws overule state laws based on the Commerce Clause(?)>

Obviously the only solution is for each State's Representatives and Senators to pass Federal laws legalizing medical marijuana and/or the possession small amounts.

It's in Congress' hands to solve the problem. Ask your Senators and Congressperson where they stand on the issue.

I'm not sure if it's the best way to judge such a matter.

11. What debate are you talking about?
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 01:16 AM by firefox
Is the federal government on television debating against those that want to talk about the fraud and failure of prohibition? No. They do not even want the word prohibition used and in their grants that use taxpayer money to cement the prohibition it is universally required that the word prohibition does not appear.

Do you ever see representatives from NORML or MPP or anyone else get to debate the same tired lines of "Marijuana is a dangerous and addictive drug." Do they ever get to say it is not dangerous and use is mostly beneficial? Do they get to say that it is not addictive and that it is not marijuana but cannabis and that it is a plant and not a drug?

There is no debate and the opposition to prohibition is excluded from the controlled media. After the online community continually blasted Walters and Company for the liars they are they started a program this year that has dropped the lie of "Marijuana is a dangerous and addictive drug" because now there is a response via the Internet instead of the programming that came with the one way media. This year they started on a tautology logic of "It's not harmless" and we get to knock that out of the park with what the hell is harmless and the issue is the harms of prohibition anyway. The senseless "It's not harmless" crap from the ONDCP has now yielded again to the prime strategy of silence.

The real criminals are in public office where they demand to continue prohibition despite the fact that it doesn't prohibit and in fact brings cannabis users into contact with the dealers in truly addictive substances where it should have long ago been separated like done so successfully in Holland. The two parties agree not to even talk about the drug war in their elections much less address a justification for the harms of prohibition.

What we have is people trying to erase the brainwashing that 70 years of taxpayer demonization and vilification have instilled. There are plenty of elected officials on this website and staff of elected officials. Why don't they tell us in this thread why they think Cannabis Prohibition is so wonderful?

Get on here and debate. Tell me how you justify prohibition and tell me how hemp that gives us clothing and shelter and miracle plastic and the most nutritious seed known to man is prohibited using the classification of Schedule 1 Narcotics in the Controlled Substances Act.

I don't see any debate. I see two sides where one side employs truth and reason and where one side employs silence, lies, taxpayer money, and a complicit controlled media. The GAO even sanctioned the lies of the ONDCP saying they are charged with preserving the status of Schedule 1 Substances in there charter and knowing they cannot do that with the truth, much less debate.

When this country has a debate on preserving cannabis prohibition, prohibition is dead.

15. Not sure I understand...
...what you are saying.

If you are saying that it may not be best to argue the point by comparing booze and marijuana as drugs, then I would tend to agree with you.

However, I do think there is one very compelling argument to make, to wit: if we needed to have a Constitutional amendment to outlaw booze, then why do we not need one to outlaw marijuana???

9. The funny part of this is that the fundies keep saying decisions
like this and abortion and gay marriageshould be left up to the states, but when States vote to approve them, all the fundies want to do is over-rule it by the Feds.

I heard some idiot this morning on cspan from Family something saying that's the way all these things should be decided. Let the people vote their wishes. At the time, all I could think of was, Oregon voted the right to die law, Calif. voted to legalize medical MJ, and Mass. voted to recognize Gay marriage, but none of the fundies are happy with that! They try to fight it all the way to the SC to over-rule the decision of the voters!

I'd LOVE to get into a real debate with these idiots! I'm sure they'll be out to get Denver for this one too!

16. It is ridiculous
They always do that. :eyes: It's like with the activist judges. They go around and say "liberal activist judges" but they're trying to do the same thing with Roe v Wade. :eyes: Hopefully people learn.
