How would Utah vote, the reddest of red states, if
Senator Harry Reid, a Mormon, ran for President?

1. He would probably get 40% of the vote
he isn't conservative enough for some of the more radical mormons. But he would do very well in SLC.

2. They'd still vote against him if he were a Dem.

3. Republican
To think that Mormons would vote for Reid a Democrat over scrubbie is pure fantasy. Mormons, as tight a knit group as they are, will vote for people who are not Mormon against a Mormon if the Mormon has a more liberal position on many issues. In addition, Utah has a fairly sizeable Catholic population that is also quite conservative.
But, to be fair, Salt Lake City's mayor is a Democrat and somewhat of a populist.

BTW I disagree with you that Utah is the reddest. From what I've seen that dubious honor appears to belong to Idaho.

4. Reddest of the red?
I think I heard in the last election that every single county in Nebraska went republican, making the entire state red. Would that be the reddest of the red?

12. So why is the South such a pariah on this board?
Seems to me the mid-West is well more deep red than the South.

I know my state (Tennessee) didn't go entirely red. There were several counties that were blue.

17. Beats me
I know a lot of fiesty, fired-up Dems in GA. And our state on local and state races was far more purple (dark purple) than red.

But I will give them that any state that "elects" (we are a Diebold state after all) Saxby Chambliss has it comin'!

16. I've got to go with Utah.
Bush got 71.5% there, whereas he was only in the high sixties in NE and ID.NE had one red county (Thurston) as did Idaho (Blaine). UT was all blue, as was OK.

8. I think Dr. Dean is redefining the old "anti-choice, pro-life, etc"
stuff into the new "keep government out of our personal lives". I bet Sen. Reid would approve and go along with that outstanding notion.

9. I hope so - as I think Reid's position is a real problem
for a Dem leader.

11. is he just against abortion personally or would he like to outlaw
it for everyone? I am not familiar with his plan. I know a bunch of Democratic politicians say they are personally opposed to abortion but want it safe and legal. Does he want Roe v. Wade overturned?

13. It is my impression that he does not think any (or hardly any)
abortions should be allowed. I don't know what he says about over-turing Roe.

14. Reid said, this is choice between women and Dr. Even thou he is
against Abortion. Look at his web site. He doesn't believe in overturning Roe.

15. he personally opposes abortion, but will not do anything to overturn
Roe. He also has serious questions re: Alito, who has a strong anti-choice record.
