3. The 2,000 milestone will be reached..........
the same week bushies will be indicted left and right. There's going to have to be a whirlwind of spinning this week. The next few weeks could see bush's popularity bottom out in the 20's......all because of an Oedipal grudge georgie had to settle. The effects of this are going to be felt for years to come.
RIP to those brave men and women, they deserved better than their CIC gave them.
This number does not include those that died of "non-combat" injuries. If I understand correctly that means anyone who died after the fact in Germany or elsewhere and are not counted in this number. Of course there are myriad OTHER non-combat situations as well. I wonder what the REAL count is for this war, total, from A to Z? Anyone who would still be alive if the chimp had not gotten his knickers twisted and his blood lust had been kept in check? Does anyone have THAT number?

It also includes those that get injured and then die later...

5. I remember
I remember before the war began, seeing a general on tv saying that a war would MOST likely involve over a thousand dead American soldiers. Unless I'm mistaken, it was before the war was declared, when we weren't sure they were going to do it. This general said it would be at least that number, but I don't recall him getting much of a reaction.

Now we're at twice that number. I wonder how many other people remember that general giving us that warning, that the war would be FAR more costly than the first gulf war was. He said it, plain as day.

Then they wouldn't let the military use anywhere near the number of soldiers they said they needed. All in this, my perception is that they've ignored and disregarded virtually ALL the advice of the military, in this war.

This admin fairly well planned on the deaths of these soldiers. Every fucking one. Insert more curse words here. They knew this was going to happen better than we did, but unlike us, they had the power to NOT do it, our admin. They cost the soldiers their lives, by choice, for politics.

Leaders? This admin doesn't even follow very well, much less lead.

Far as I'm concerned, the only orders a military individual should be following are the words in the oath they took, which state clearly they should obey ONLY lawful orders. That means, the only ethical way to act is to follow the oath and refuse to participate in the illegal war in Iraq. Unfortunately, for ALL these soldiers, if this WAR is illegal, all their ACTIONS in it are illegal.

In all reality, and it sounds daft but I mean it, one day the soldiers might be charged for their actions. Here or abroad, one day they might be charged for war crimes. Seriously. The world will be looking for scapegoats, and what's been done in Iraq warrants legal action.

Will our government shield our soldiers from the law, later? Well, are they doing that right now? NO.

That's what really gets me about this war. Apart and aside from all the other issues about it, the soldiers are the one's that will pay the price for it. Whatever price there is to pay, internationally or at home, they're the ones that will pay.

All for following illegal orders. They ought to walk away from it and come home. Any way they can. It's my opinion, but I'd be lying if I said it was a humble opinion. I'm hateful over this.

37. Actually I'm sure Bush thinks 2000 is not very many soldiers to lose
It's a drop in the bucket compared to how many motorists die on the road every year, where people more-or-less willingly get in their cars and drive/ride.

I really think only a number 10-100 times as large as the number of troops lost would even register with him.

12. No, Lynn, only the poor, the innocent and the patriotic die.
The rule rule of war since time immemorial. The loudest cheerleaders do so from the safety of the "Homeland". I will have to calculate how many US military people have dies in the 53 years of my life. It is a staggering number I am sure.

I hate this so much. I hope I can harness this anger and use it constructively to throw the bums out (of office).

The Missing Wounded
Injury and Decorum in Iraq
By STAN GOFF

There are no longer any American troops being wounded in Iraq.

Now they are "injured." Listen closely to the news and you will be hard pressed to hear the word "wounded." "Wounded" conjures up a different image than "injured," and here we see yet again the invertebrate nature of the American press. Yesterday, while preparing some onions and butternut squash, I got carried away with the knife and injured myself. That injury was treated with cold running water and a band aid that I'm not even using today.

BUSH LIED OUR TROOPS TO THEIR DEATHS.

Wanton death and destruction brought to the world by the morally bankrupt, cowardly chickenhawks of the bush administration. All the news isn't bad tho - I hear Cheney is making a mint on his Halliburton retirement package... :sarcasm:

How many miles can a lie travel
and how many people can it sweep away

2000 mile-markers now mark it’s path

Yet the lie’s still moving
and the bodies keep coming

Home

To a nation too afraid
to change it’s course
On a road already too long

26. 2,000 US soldiers killed for power and oil.
100,000 Iraqi civilians, a statistic over a year old. Tens of thousands more have been murdered since. These are the deaths IN EXCESS of the people who were already dying under Hussein's brutal rule and the genocidal mass starvation forced upon the country by the US and those it bullied to go along.

And yet there are still people who want to drag this on, to continue this bloody war of aggression.

34. We welcomed someone home alive this month.
My son's best friend. He is not my son, but may as well be; he grew up hanging out at our place. He signed up in 2001, before 9/11. He just got back from a year spent in Mosul, and is due to get out in December.

We are so grateful that he made it home in one piece, physically. He is not whole mentally or emotionally at this point, though. He was part of an advance "strike" force. Most of the young men he was in basic with, trained with, and fought with did not make it home.

1999 families who were not able to welcome their loved one home.

Many more than that who welcomed broken, maimed, disabled family members back.

When does this reach critical mass for the general public? When does it penetrate their shriveled little hearts and minds?

There will be a lot of work for America in supporting and healing our troops.

And imagine living in a nation where the fighting takes place.

All for power and wealth. The Republicans have damned tens of thousands to a living hell for their own profit.
