Yeah, you can't chain yourself to the fence. I had a friend in college that got in trouble because he used to grab the bars and shout "let me in" repeatedly every time he walked by the WH. The Secret Service has no sense of theatrics.

...I commended her on her resiliency. She confided that she isn't there 24/7, but her message is. Others man the tent for her at times.

What was great was the amount of teenagers (on field trips, I believe) who took the time to ask her what she was doing, doesn't she get tired, etc. One kid asked why no one had made a movie about her yet. She replied that more people have seen her over the years walking by the White House than would ever have seen the movie...

are the ones who lead movements, and "get things done." Look at Rosa Parks. Look at Martin Luther King. Look at Gandhi.

She DID grieve in private, for well over a year. Then she went out and started doing something about it. What are YOU doing?

It's crossing a boundary in many people's minds when someone creates a spectacle of themselves, and to many people this will be a spectacle rather than honoring the dead. Ms. Sheehan is intelligent and articulate, and has brought immense pressure to bear against bush. Chaining herself to the fence will be viewed by many as a cheap gesture, because there is nothing uplifting about it.

Lighting 2,000 candles in front of the White House, or being able to gather 2,000 people to light one candle each, in the darkness, that would be an appropriately solemn tribute and also would lend to the occasion a dignified atmosphere and photos to touch the heart.

Please, Ms. Sheehan, do not chain yourself to the fence.

I think if she does this many people will think she's moved from being an inspiration to being a publicity seeker.

People are already against the Iraq War.

The wheels are coming off the Bush Machine and Cindy chaining herself to the fence won't help that proceed any further. It'll just offer a distraction. It's rude to get in the way of your enemies when they're self destructing.

Give inspirational speeches, hold a candlelit vigil, go back to the basics Mrs. Sheehan.

...this is exactly what I was writing about about many weeks ago after the hijacked march in DC...and I was attacked as a troll and far worse. After everything Cindy has done, this would simply be reported as a publicity stunt, and used derisively against the anti-war movement (it is rather cliche).

Today, once one has made an impact with their statement/opinion/act of disobedience, it must be passed to others. THIS DOES NOT DENIGRATE CINDY! It is simply reality - the media, and the American audience, loves you for that symbolic 15 minutes. After that, they turn you into a clown, and your beliefs as well. Once the initial impact is over, everything the person does is over-analyzed and spun. Cindy was given a grace period, than coverage and analysis...now, she is in to the territory of "What have you done for me lately" by the MSM...and they will not be kind.

Of course, I'm about to be flamed by the supporters of St. Cindy, who forever fail to realize that I'm not denigrating her, but only realizing how this will play in Peoria. And Peoria votes. And the most important thing is taking control away from the Republican party...and that road goes through the many Peorias in the U.S.

What's the need for theatrics that distract. The political comments also get in the way as well.

I wish Cindy would resume her vigil as she originally had intended...demanding a meeting with the manchild so that he can answer her questions about why her son died. Persistance and the message is what drew many of us to Cindy's side, not the theatrics.

Civil Disobedience. As for this being some sort of spectacle or gimmick, well, I think the Iraq War is the most disgusting spectacle I have ever seen in my life, and clearly our voices aren't being heard or heeded by marching and writing letters.

This movement needs to keep picking up the pace and Cindy is doing an amazing job at helping inspire activists and keep them motivated.

If I could get back to DC to get arrested at the White House again with Cindy I would, no question. Unfortunately I can't be a full-time activist, so for now I will just voice my support of this action, and any other non-violent civil disobedience aimed at bringing an end to this horrific war.

Marching in the streets or lighting 2000 candles is lovely and inspiring. Unfortunately it seems as if the major result of this is to make us feel all warm inside. (Like wetting your pants in a dark suit--makes you feel all warm inside but nobody notices.)

You are right, any major movement REQUIRES many brave souls willing to put their asses out there and be arrested.

If the media starts to flame her, that means she is getting to them.

There should be many thousands of us willing to perform civil disobedience.
