I Feel Like Fitzgerald Is Holding the Nation's Future in His Hands..
I've always said that we will never get back in power until the Repuke engineered image of themselves as THE PARTY OF GOD is attacked, cut down and destroyed. I feel that Fritz is the only thing we have had in five years and the only thing we are going to have of this size to blow a cannon hole into the side of their Ship of State and start it for the bottom. If he simply comes forth with a small ripple, these animals will continue to reign. If he comes forth with a good tidal wave (like implicating Cheney or even Bush - pray, pray)then that added to all the other corruption swirling around (DeLay, Frist, etc.)is perfect fodder for the Dems to show the slime behind the 'cross'. And, by god, if Fitz does go deep and long, the Dems have to jump on like the Repukes piled onto the Bill and Monica story. To do less would be unforgivable. Fitzgerald and Earl in Texas are the only thing it seems left of good, patriotic Americans trying to keep this country from the real enemies (if they succeed, I, for one, am going to finally feel some hope).

3. So what do you suggest he do....
...if by some chance he does not have enough evidence to bring charges, let alone convict. I'm not saying that he does or doesn't, but it seems to me that some on here want to do away with due process. If he can't bring charges that will stick and still tries to move ahead out of some personal vendetta then we will all lose. Just like we are and should be against torture even for the most heinous of criminals and terror mongers, we must be for due process and the letter of the law even for the worst of criminals EVEN if they are repugs.

I just can't help thinking people are once again putting all their eggs in one basket and trying to find yet ANOTHER liberal messiah or liberal silver bullet that is going to make all the bad stuff go away.

12. I don't think people are looking for a liberal messiah
(but can you really blame any who are?)

What people are looking for is for the justice system to work. But we have seen how the justice system can be hijacked. There is nothing absolute about it (only in an ideal world). Fitz is dealing with people who have spent their lives thwarting 'due process' by any means necessary. The GJ should show no mercy against these arrogant thugs who have sought to bend an entire nation to their will. If there are no indictments, we need to question that very strongly. This is a test of the justice system as a reasonable means of checking criminal abuse of power at the highest levels. If this investigation can't shed light into this den of thieves, then we are really in trouble.

4. Don't get your hopes up

Fitzgerald will likely indict Libby. PERHAPS Rove - if he decides Rove really screwed himself during the last interview. The charges will be technical and minor. Fitzgerald closes up shop and goes home. Republicans declare charges are technical and minor. Furthermore, recent news stories have been concocted to immunize Bush and Cheney in the public mind.

It is really up to Fitzgerald. But Fitzgerald is no Ronnie Earle.

Let's hope I'm wrong on this.

6. I predict a soft blow.
A politicized lack of extreme.

I would like to know if it's even possible to limit the extent of indictments. But for the sake of the country, I would bet this won't go nearly as deeply as it should, or as we here on DU would like.

I'm all ready for disappointment.

7. I disagree...
while Fitzgerald could be the start of knocking down this corrupt administration, I think that Bush's inaction on Katrina changed public opinion fundamentally. No American liked seeing pictures of this country looking like some 3rd world disaster. The rise of gas prices, due to profiteering, along with inflation has already doomed Bush. What ever the outcome of Fitzgerald's investigation, the Democrats will make major gains in '06 and '08.

13. I'm not sure the democrats will have much to do with it.
1. I remember the country's mood after Ford pardoned Nixon. It was obvious that the Democrats would win the next election, it was only a matter of who would win.

2. How rare is it for a party to win 3 terms in a row?

10. Fitz' is in a position to create a crisis of unprecedented scale
The breadth of the conspiracy that's been talked about involves multiple cabinet level positions as well as the offices of the P. and VP. It also involves at least one foreign government. Blair is still sitting, if Bush goes down, the Brits will have Blair out of office too.

Fitz could create a crisis whose scale has never been seen among the western democracies.

11. Well, that's better than its being in Bushista hands.
And then, as you note, down here in Texas, there are Ronnie Earl's hands.

And a couple of months back, Cindy Sheehan's hands managed a little finger pointing at Crawford.

So, there are sufficient hands to go around -- if only we can get more of them to be doing the people's business.
