it is because the democratic party is ___________.
Instead of answering honestly, he began a long-winded, canned, recitation that reminded me of the infamous Kerry speech on funding the Iraq invasion. It was though all of the worst speaking habits of Kerry, thinking things through during an answer, had been genetically implanted into Edwards.
Sorry, folks, but if he represents the best face we can show the general public, we are in deep doo doo. How about a simple answer like "STUPID" or INEPT or CLUELESS. Every American understands that the GOP is in serious trouble of their own making. Every American knows that if the Dems fail to make big gains in 06, it is because we are playing it stupid, ineptly or cluelessly. WHY NOT SAY THE OBVIOUS?
Had he done so, he would have endeared himself to the entire audience, and probably raised his value to the party. He also would have started the first necessary step of shedding techniques which do not work in today's marketplace of communication or ideas.
I read with a horrible dull ache and shake through my whole body, that our Democratic leaders are planning to release "the most detailed plan" to fix our country's problems. Hey, I do not mind the research, the planning and the use of brain power. we need that badly. BUT releasing 'THE MOST DETAILED PLAN" ever to the general public is insane. completely, totally numbbuts stupid. absolutely the worst thing we can even consider doing.
which would the US respond to better, knowing that a majority thinks IRaq was a mistake:
a) We get our troops home. Now. Starting tomorrow at noon. Not all of them, not all at once. We have a responsibility to do it right, and allow the Iraqis to slowly have control over their own country, but surely stand on their own. It will be hard work, but if we do it right, we will have all of them out soon.
b) as we continue to deal with three set of problems concurrently, it has become patently obvious that our presence is now causing more problems. Therefore, we shall continue our efforts to negotiate with elements of various factions, sects and tribal leaders in the hopes of reaching resolutions either on a bilateral, or if possible trilateral bases. This assumes of course that the socio-economic conditions do not worse due to sectarian violence, At the same time, with the use of growing percentages of Iraqi civilian forces, workers and busineses, we shall redouble our efforts to integrate working elements of the infrastructure, including, but not limited to power generation and transmission of electrical power through a segmented grid system, which would offer greater protections against insurgent attacks, errors in construction, war, or technical problems. Also, with respect the water and sewer systems, it is now clear that this critically important element of societal infrastructure has suffered greatly, first from a decade of lack of maintenance during our blockade, and second from the necessary destruction and damage that takes place during any armed incursion. Lastly, these fragile elements are particularly susceptible to insurgent activity, and safeguarding large complex systems, like water supply or waste water reclamation and reuse, require significant investements of trained manpower and security. The longterm plan is to replace private contractors, currently paid for by the US and employing foreign workers and security, the vast majority being US citizens, with a trained, local workforce. This necessarily forces us to review our anit-Baathist rules instituted by Paul Bremer in a shortsighted but error-prone effort to win the hearts and minds. Lastly we will no longer simply train the Iraqi army. We will train to retain. IE once they have some training, they will retain their authority as we begin a phased pull out. They have to learn how to walk on their own; the best way to do that is through practice. It is a firm belief that seeing iraqi faces on their own will substantially lower tha levels of antagonism in most areas, and if we are able to match the Iraqi forces with the sects and segments of population appropriately, we will not suffer the secteriab problems, such as iraqi police or military troops actually siding with one sect over another, often with dire and murderous consequences.

A and B say precisely the same thing. Which would the American public respond to better? Edwards gave us B, not A.
