Poll: Clark Holds Slight Lead Over Rivals
By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Wesley Clark has a slight lead over his Democratic presidential rivals in the latest national poll by CNN-USA Today-Gallup released Thursday.

Clark, who entered the race just over three weeks ago, had 21 percent support while former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean was favored by 16 percent of those polled Oct. 6-8. Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, the 2000 vice presidential nominee, and Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts were at 13 percent among registered voters.

(And yucky part of the same article):

In 1996, President Clinton easily captured the support of women voters, fueling talk of a gender gap between Republicans and Democrats. Now, the parties are almost evenly matched among women voters, according to a poll commissioned by EMILY's List, a political action committee that supports Democratic women candidates who favor abortion rights.

1. That Emily's List poll
was done Aug. 15-Sept. 3, when Bush was still polling in the mid-50s, for the most part. The part that disturbs me was that the less educated a woman was, the more likely she was to support Chimpy. That's depressing.

3. I think you read that incorrectly
The article says:

"The poll found the Democratic candidate had an 18-point advantage among women with more than a college education, was about even with Bush among college graduates and was nine points behind Bush among women with a high school education or less."

4. Why are we still doing national polls?
I mean, does anyone think Joe Lieberman is tied with John Kerry for the Democratic nomination? :-)

It's like asking Californians whether they prefer the Boston Red Sox or the New York Yankees. There's no national primary. It's a state by state affair, with D.C., Iowa, New Hampshire, and so on.
