Will October 15 be another circle jerk for the neo-cons?
Remember the January 31st "elections" in Iraq? Remember all of the neoconservative gloating about the supposed smashing success of that day? Ignoring the fact that 40 people were killed that day in election related violence, or the Sunni boycott or the fact that the White House's hand picked, CIA funded party was voted out. Never mind. For a week we heard nothing but gloating from the neo-con think tanks, their keyboard pecker columnists and apologists from this administration. "See, see! Look at the nice purple fingers!! See, see! The whole war was justified! The 'insurgency' will surely wind down now! Boy we sure showed those liberal appeasers and French loving surrender monkeys!" I think public support for the war rebounded--for about a week.

I guess I'm wondering if we'll see the same this same thing again after the October 15 election.

2. I can't wait for more waggy blue fingers
I really liked that. It was cool.

This is, as far as I know, the first constitutional referendum where a 3/4 majority is required to reject the constitution. It is, for lack of a better description: a fucking farce, an insult to democratic government.

But go read AlGore's, my president's, excellent recent essay on what is wrong with us - it should still be on the greatest page. We have bigger issues to deal with than the twilight of the neoclowns.

3. It'll be like putting lipstick on a pig
I think the Sunnis will vote this time, and enough so that the constituion is rejected. Then its back to square one, with suspicion and mistrust growing between the three factions. Meanwhile, murder euphamistically called "ethnic cleansing" will continue as Sunnis living in Shia neighborhoods are killed or run out, and Shia in Sunni neighborhoods are treated the same way.
