I'm not married, yet I wear a ring on my left ring finger that resembles a wedding ring. Why? Because I have a boyfriend. And I do not like having to hurt someone's feelings by rejecting his advances, so the ring helps to discourage people from trying in the first place. Also, a friend of mine wears all of her rings on her left hand, including the ring finger, because she says they look better there than on her right hand. That does not make sense to me, but the point is there are many reasons why someone who is not married might wear a ring on his/her ring finger.

i am older than harriet, and unmarried, but often wear rings on all of my fingers..ha! or sometimes, i will wear one on my left hand ring finger depending on the situation..usually when i travel alone..i know it is hard to believe..hehe..but us oldies do get hit on..and usually it is by someone our own age that is also alone and lonely and looking to start a meaningful relationship..often really, really wanting to..and u dont want to..sometimes...to deal with it all when u are not in a "new" relationship place in life at the moment..there are lots of reasons a woman might wear a weddding type ring..including that it was her moms ring..or whatever.
