Bush speaking now.Gag what a liar.
Says he did an unusual thing by declaring an emergency before the storm. Everyone else does it after a national emergency. Except for hurricanes!

We have enough troops to do Iraq and disaters. Honore said we are using 25% (about) of the reserve units in Iraq. Lots left over to help. Except they are using 60-75% of the active reserve units in Iraq. Another truth that is a lie.

And of course now is not the time to assign blame.

We are in Iraq to win against the terrorists. I guess the reason we're over these will change week to week.

1. He definitely would rather talk about Iraq and spent quite a bit of time
on that after they asked if the troop deployments hurt the response time - he said it didn't, of course. But it seemed odd to discuss Iraqi elections when you are in standing in the destruction of NOLA.

I thought Nagin looked "pained" when Bush was talking about how there was a sigh of relief, how they thought they had dodged a bullet, etc. It was hell from the time it struck and the Feds were clueless.

3. Declare a national emergency before and don't act after!
Yes. That certainly is unusual.

5. I got the best laugh I've had in 2 weeks
My favorites quotes:

"I don't want to lay blame. I want to solve problems"

And "They told me a big storm was comin' so I went on TV that night and told the American people that a big storm was comin'.

Cracked me up.

=====================================================
Nixon and Bush (41) took simiilar actions for other hurricanes.

Someone else here at DU posted this, but I can't find the original post, so I got this from a site that "borrowed" the post:

In September 1999, Hurricane Floyd -- a category 3 -- was bearing down the Carolinas and Virginia.

President Clinton was in Christchurch, New Zealand - meeting with President Jiang of China ... he cut short his meetings overseas and flew home to coordinate the rescue efforts. This all one day BEFORE a Cat-3 hit the coast.

How about own father during Hurricane Andrew? Once again, President Bush (41) -- August, 1992 -- was in the midst of a brutal campaign for re-election. Yet, he cut off his campaigning the day before and went to Washington where he martialed the largest military operation on US soil in history. He sent in 7,000 National Guard and 22,000 regular military personnel, and all the gear to begin the clean up within hours after Andrew passed through Florida.

In August of 1969 when Cat-5 Hurricane Camille hit roughly the same area as Katrina, President Nixon had already readied the National Guard and ordered all Gulf rescue vessels and equipment from Tampa and Houston to follow the hurricane in. There were over 1,000 regular military with two dozen helicopters to assist the Coast Guard and National Guard within hours after the skies cleared.
