Here Comes The Halliburton Commercials Again.
Right on cue.

I heard that Bush rescinded the Davis-Bacon Act this morning.

I can't believe the gall of this man.

He gets 58 billion to give his cronies and they don't even have to pay the workers a minimum wage?!!.

This is clearly war on the people. How can you improve your lot by taking less pay while the rich reap the rewards of the contracts?

2. Evidently he's allowed to SUSPEND the law during national emergencies.
To my mind, the emergency is while the hurricane is active and people's lives are in danger. Once past that point, all that's in danger is Halliburton breaking the sound barrier of profits. I looked at its stock today. At $65.27 a share, it only pays quarterly dividends of 13 cents! Evidently all those BLOOD SOAKED profits are going to executive bonuses & other incentives. - along with Chaney's annual bonuses or however they're styled.

3. Why does Halliburton even need to advertise?
Show of hands, who here has EVER shopped at Halliburton? Why do they feel the need to convince us their the good guys?

5. Because they think we're stupid just like cattle and all they have to do
is ring the bells. The Homeland Security Color Code Scheme is the same.

4. The Davis-Bacon Act requires government contractors
to pay prevailing wages. Prevailing wages and minimum wages are two different things. Google the terms.

Here is an example of a prevailing wage for an electrician in building construction in Orleans County published 08/27/04
JEFFERSON, ORLEANS, PLAQUEMINES, ST. BERNARD, ST. CHARLES, ST.
JAMES, AND ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISHES:

Rates Fringes

Electrician (includes low
voltage wiring and
installation of fire alarms,
security systems, sound and
communication systems,
telephones, computers, and
temperature controls)..........$ 22.09 6.00

Here is an ironworker

JEFFERSON, ORLEANS, PLAQUEMINES, ST. BERNARD, ST. CHARLES, ST.
JAMES (Southeastern Portion), ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST, AND ST.
TAMMANY PARISHES:

Rates Fringes

Ironworker, reinforcing and
structural.....................$ 18.05 5.52

http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=Davis-Bacon&docid=LA20030014

The federal minimum wage is $5.15 for 2005. That is also the minimum wage in Louisiana.

It is still wrong of Bush to waive the Davis-Bacon Act since it forces the worker to take a loss. Because top notch skilled building contractor tradesmen can command pretty good wages outside the Louisiana area, Bush's waiver may result in contractors hiring workers who are not the best qualified for the work that needs to be done.

6. You're trying to overcomplicate it . I know exactly what it means and
it boils down to minimum wage for whatever area you're in.

You just wasted a lot of space. It's a difference without a distinction.

The point remains. They don't have to pay the customary wages.
