I am a poor person...
I am a student and I work for a grassroots non-profit, I don't have money, but I am fortunate to have time. What I mean is if I could get down there I could help. I was able to for 9/11 because I live in New York City, does anyone know of a way to get down there, is anyone sponsoring a ride, for people who could spend three weeks down there helping?

Desperately frustrated, bound by poverty, but determined to help.

Erica

2. Five-star suggestion there
I want to do that myself, but I've been turned down as a risk for Agent Orange. :(

5. I am going with my children to give blood and make a donation.
They are too young to give blood, but they are busting into their piggy banks.

6. Contact your local Red Cross, just be mindful that if you haven't
any useful skills they may politely turn you down as a volunteer; there is no time for training now.

Keep the spirit and the idea for later when they can afford the luxury of training you (I'm a volunteer coordinator myself as part of my duties).

don't be discouraged if they encourage you to volunteer locally; having skilled, trained volunteers on hand in your own locale is a godsend when it's most needed.

The suggestions of money and blood are very doable and appreciated.

If you do have medical, construction, or counseling skills, by all means tell them when you call.

7. Lots of groups are gathering clothes, water, food, etc to send
our local news talked about it. Check around for groups like that need volunteers.
