Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 08:46 PM by underthedome
I see alot blaming Bush but I think the first stop should be with Louisiana's Governor, why wasn't this state more prepared?

9. You could at least had a plan and some funding
Of any natural disaster in the US there are none as locked-down as NOLA flooding at some point.
Where the heck is FEMA and the DHC?

2. She was out there asking people to get out before the storm
She got what was left of her Guard and equipment called up. She leads a rather poor state. What else was she supposed to do? Budget cuts due to Fed Dollars slashed were NOT her doing.

10. Something seemed wrong with the evacuation plan
Plenty of people in NO dont have cars and were stranded there.

I dont know who is responsible for the evacuation plan, but other plans in other cities should be revised in this regard.

22. May be, but this w-end, they were also showing plenty of people that just
could not leave because they did not have a car. This was even quoted by AP, who typically does not care about these details and the object of plenty of threads here.

19. In any disaster, the poor will always suffer most
Society just gives lip service to care and is not set up for reality. The whole culture just isn't working. We are gonna see more and more proof of it.

17. I just checked 'em; they all work but one.
They seem to work for EVERYONE ELSE, too. You seem to be experiencing a unique problem. Which leads one to wonder whether you cannot read them, or don't want to.

Blame Bush! The government can do little good for the people because of Bush's budget cuts.

11. Don't blame the governor. Bush not only slashed...
the disaster relief funding, he also cut levee-strengthening projects and -- worst of all -- privatized the whole New Orleans FEMA operation, turning it over to one of his (Halliburton-like) friends, thereby perverting emergencies into opportunities for special profiteering.

The extent to which this president has unleashed the most savagely Tryannosauric forms of capitalism is truly unspeakable, and its horror is nowhere more obvious than in what is happening in New Orleans.

reports on how Bush has vindictively slashed federal disaster and levee-improvement funds for New Orleans:

13. Homeland Security is in charge of disasters now a days
I'm sure the Governor is doing her best but without an adequate response on the Federal level there probably isn't all that much she can do.

16. Because Bush took away all the money they were using to prepare
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 09:37 PM by Walt Starr
That's why.

the governor of New ORleans did everything possible with the resources she had to prepare for this. There were federal funds to shore up the levees, but Bush cut those funds. There was a plan to prepare the city for this to survive a cat 5, but Bush cut that money and all they had left prepared them for a Cat 3.

Governor Blanco is a DAMN FINE GOVERNOR!

20. she did the best she could
the storm turned, originally it was to hit alabama/florida panhandle

it turned quite suddenly & also when it hit florida it was a cat 1 or 2, a small storm of the type we laugh off all the time in louisiana

no one can prepare for a disaster that is greater than anything that ever occurred in all of human history, we have never experienced a hurricane of this size and strength -- and it hit a strategic location

jehovah himself couldn't have done anything

24. Last time they showed her,
she was wrestling an alligator that was trying to swallow a baby puppy which Kathleen had rescued from the jaws of a shark only moments before as she was swimming down bourbon street.

She has a lot on her mind right now. Can we give her some slack?

You would have to live down here to know a South Louisianian's love for our magic New Orleans. Kathleen is from Lafayette and Mary's family are well known New Orleans' natives. Nobody alive wishes the survival of NO more than these two women. Just sayin'.

29. I believe you completely
I haven't lived in NO, but I have been lucky enough to visit a few times.

My response was questioning motives of the origional poster, who seemed to want to villify Ms. Blanco, and give bush* a pass.

I'm on your side :hi:
