7. Could you be more specific?
than just somewhere between L.A. and Jacksonville, Fla.? It's been reported the twin spans over the Rigolets (entry to Lake Pontchartrain) were badly damaged. Were other segments lost?

I have my alerts on google set for the Monteleone Hotel in hopes that I hear anything. I also have been searching the message boards from the area. I am sure we will hear something soon.

I'd already heard that section of I-10 was in bad shape. If I-10 going west out of NO had collapsed also, that would have been even worse news.

Crescent City Connection are the twin spans over the Mississippi from the West Bank to Downtown. Originally one bridge called the GNO, then a twin bridge built later.

21. Nope. CCC connects the CBD to the West Bank of the Mississippi.
In fact, it is said to be the only way out of N.O. right now. Twin Span (I-10) was the main artery connecting N.O. to points east and NE (i.e. most of the Southeast). Ouch. :scared:

22. Remember NOLA folks; CA rebuilt the Santa Monica Frwy in 4-5 months.
CA DU'ers correct me if I'm wrong but it's only by a month or so. That was awesome. Knocked down by the big quake out there, the SM Frwy is a vital link in LA. It had to be rebuilt quickly and it was. I-10 can be the same. It would be a living testimony to that great city that it can perform miracles when necessary. All my support to NOLA and LA in general!

27. They'd have to dry out first, and that will be a long time coming.
the thousand lb sandbags failed. The water continues to rise and won't stop until the lake and city levels are equal.

Many people returned to NO over night, thinking that the storm was gone, and it was safe. The Superdome is now in water. This is truly horrific.
