First, 9-11. I think it was at best (worst) a case of what you might call agravated LIHOP. That is, they pulled off the security and maybe even encouraged the attack, but they didn't directly plan it.

My logic for making this assertion is that they wanted a war with Iraq so bad they could taste it, and needed that PNAC-style "Pearl Harbor-like event." Had they had a more active role in planning 9-11, the they would have been able to plant much stronger "evidence" linking Saddam, and they wouldn't have needed to resort to shoddy methods like trying to lean on Wesley Clarke to claim a connection.

There was so much more, but it's all become quite a blur. I'll have to consult my notes.
