Did Novak oppose the war in Iraq?

His statements on the war always seemed kind of mushy, but according to Howard Kurtz in today's Washington Post:

"Novak, a veteran conservative whose column appears in more than 300 papers, is well connected in the administration, although he opposed the war in Iraq."

I would also remind folks that Novak served in the Army in the Korean War. He should never be called a chickenhawk.

1. yes, he did oppose it.

He was rather outspoken about it. He opposed it on the same grounds Pat Buchanan did... that America can't and shouldn't police the world.

However, since the war began, Novak has reverted to his blind allegiance to the Bush administration.

2. Yes. He did oppose the war.

He was consistent in opposition to the war - just as he was a lonely one on the right to oppose the first Gulf war. However, as he said about Desert Storm, he held the same view that once the soldiers started fighting he would "support the troops." But, he still reminded people in his column (and on TV) that he didn't support the invasion in the first place.

3. Also Novak is no Neo-con

Novak has outed the Neo-cons and their PNAC mentality more than once. I don't like him and find him patronizing, dogmatic and arrogant.....but he's no fool. I don't think he's very impressed with the Bush Team.

He also takes every chance he can, when Reagan and Bush are mentioned together, that the Reagan's had only a "formal" and "buisness-like" relationship with the Bush family and that, in fact, neither President or Mrs. Reagan held the Bush family in high regard. In fact, he was the first one to report that the Reagan's never once had the Bush's on the residential floor for dinner. Not once. That has since been in many books and stories about the Reagan years, but Novak reported it on Evans and Novak back in 1986.

and you'd have the surreal situation on the pseudo-debate show Capital Gang where Bob would argue against the war and phony liberals Margaret 'chipmunk' Carlson and Al 'spineless' Hunt would attack him for being naive

I wonder if he wrote the story for revenge?

I hope so because if he did he might have lots
of documentation and tapes.
