"Bounty on Daley costs GOP chief his day job"

The chairman of the Cook County Republican Party was fired from his real estate job Thursday for offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the indictment and conviction of Mayor Richard Daley.

Gary Skoien's offer Tuesday infuriated Daley and, most importantly, Skoien's boss, a Democrat and outspoken supporter of the mayor. Skoien was terminated Thursday as an officer of Prime Group Inc., a Chicago-based real estate firm where he has worked since 1990.

"I think Gary's political activity and his political zealousness interfered with his responsibilities in the private sector," company Chairman Mike Reschke said.

Skoien said his firing has made him "feel a lot stronger" about the bounty offer.

"Now I know what it's like," Skoien said. "If you stand up and question Mayor Daley and what's going on in City Hall, you are subject to retribution. Chances are you are not going to get more work or business and will not be able to survive in the city of Chicago."

And might I add....

2. wrong, wrong, wrong. wrong when repugs do it, wrong when dems
do it

so wrong. political belief has to be seperate from ability to earn a living. i couldnt put a kerry sign in my yard because husband owns a business in a red community. wrong. i should be able to have my views and be respected for it, not incur loss of income

wrong wrong wrong

3. Putting a Kerry sign in your yard
is a far, far cry for putting out a bounty on someone.

When you're in a highly visible corporate position, your actions, both on and off the job, are up for scrutiny. Lots of CEOs get canned if their integrity or judgment are called into question or bring unfavorable attention to the company.

He wasn't fired for being a Republican; he was fired for reaching a new low in politics. *Big* difference.

4. I agree to a point...
but this was beyond expressing political views or putting up signs.
This was offering a bounty to get dirt on an elected official.
I think that's in a very different category, frankly.

7. now the way i could agree with this is if this had repercussions with
my business. if this mans person political views interferred with my business. because it is so public, and his place of work, my business is out there in the news, and it caused loss of business or created bad image for my company. then i could see it.

ok, i am getting there

9. i have watched people jump on employers behavior
for every little infraction on this board. i am simply saying an employer has a greater responsibility than judging personal political views that contradict. protection of the employee. something everyone on this board talks about. further a post the other day on class war fare. going after the owners. how bad they are

here i am protecting the employee albeit a repug. cause i believe in employee right

yet as an employer on this board i hear how bad i am, often, wink

repugs too good at hypocrisy. i dont want to live that way even for agenda

All this is is the repukes trying to get their claws into our BLUE state and it's probably retribution for the Ryan debacle. FUCK THEM! They can't have our state!
