Jessica Simpson makes sense on fundamentalist Christians....
Hope this is in the right place, if it should be in the Lounge, I apologize in advance and please feel free to move it.

Anyway, I can't believe that Jessica Simpson actually made sense. It seems to happen so infrequently. But anyway, I have to agree with her.

I found this at http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/2005-07-26/...

"Jessica Simpson has fired back at Christian critics who have blasted her raunchy new video "These Boots Are Made For Walking" for being too sexy, insisting they should be more accepting. Members of Christian group The Resistance have publicly blasted pastors daughter Simpson for appearing like "a stripper" in the video wearing the skimpiest of bikinis and washing the Dukes Of Hazzard's famous General Lee car. But the singer-turned-actress has hit back, stating the narrow-minded comments are exactly the reason why she gave up a career as a Christian singer when she was making her big break. She says, "It didn't really surprise me because I grew up with a lot of that backlash. That's why I didn't end up going into the Christian music industry. I think that if they're really good Christians the judgment wouldn't be there.""

1. Jessica said it well....
they should not judge. Judge not lest ye be judged. Although I don't care for Simpson, I do have to agree with her on this point...

15. I agree
It's called personal responisibility. Would they want me telling them about their fashion sense or something they're wearing? :eyes:

4. I submit!
This and the recent GQ cover have worn down my resistance to the Jessica Simpson phenomenon... she's OK.

Not sure I can say the same for her fraud of a sister. ;)

11. Ashlee, the one who was busted...
...lip syncing on Saturday Night Live. The band started playing, but the wrong vocal track started playing, so she didn't know what to do, so the band just started playing loud, and she did a stupid hoedown dance, cut to commercial. Then at the end of the show, she blamed the BAND!

17. They had like two/three different reasons for that
It turned out she was having throat problems with her vocals so they thought about doing the lip synching since her throat doctor told her not to strain her vocals and all that. :eyes: Her dad said "oh everybody in the pop industry does it!" (Jessica doesn't and Britney sometimes doesn't) Blaming the band is real smart. :eyes:

5. Maybe her publicist wrote it
But yes she does make sense. She's a pretty girl and a decent singer, but sometimes appears to not be the sharpest knife in the drawer.

7. is there anyway for both sides to lose in this one?
just because you don't want to be a crap christian rocker doesn't mean you have to embrace crass lowbrow american cross-marketing.

she was doing fine as a b-list celebrity. now i am forced to ogle her remaking sir mix-a-lot's "put em on the glass". at least paris hilton was being ironic when she bikini-washed a car in her commercial.

10. Bingo
Why does it have to be one or the other extreme? My opinion has always been that if you have to strip to have people pay attention, your talent skills must be hovering near the bottom of the pole. I don't see Bono or Sting shaking the family jewels in my face.

20. I'm glad someone said it.
It's like you gotta take one side over the other. Both are extreme in my opinion.

9. she was the darling of the christian crowd
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 12:06 PM by madrchsod
until her tits grew and it was obvious that she would be to tempting to their precious sons. she was no longer pure enough so they quit buying her records and attending her concerts.
isn`t she god`s creation? fundies are really scared little children who refuse to grow up and take responsibility for their decisions-"the lord made me do it".

18. Really
The way I understand it Jessica was involved with the Christian scene and signed to some label that didn't last too long. She was working on a Christian album and was telling people and was excited but nobody believed her about it and then the label was brought down. The dad became her manager and they kept in touch with people from the label and helped her with a demo and all that and get in touch with record labels.
She got in touch with Sony and went in and sang for them and they really liked her and signed her. Her songs are pretty good and I enjoy them.

Sex and the hottest trends in music, movies, and fashion will always be more appealing to the kids than the sanitized swill you are offering them.

13. Jessia Simpson got what she deserved, and I hope she gets more
She supported the theocratic bastards in the White House, I hope the theocrats ruin her career over it now.

She's getting precisely what she asked for.

19. Totally agree. For all we know, she was contractually obliged...
...to promote the film at any cost (with help from the studio PR machine). This explaination "fits" rather neatly, considering the x-tian right is no longer her fan base. Just another career phase...and a pretty thin, tho lucrative, career at that.

14. Interesting
My brother and sister in law insist that the ditzy Simpson is just an act and that she is actually a smart person, who puts on the dunce cap to make money. This quote would fit into that "I am not as dumb as I look" part.

21. I find this argument between the two sides amusing
She's nothing but a dumb, manufactured, product of the "music" industry.
Besides the only thing she should really be judged for is her "music".

23. She's correct, but I'm sorry, Jessica - what planet are you on?
So-called "Christians" judge EVERYONE. Wasn't it just the other day that adoption agency was denying Catholics (Christians of whom those on the extreme fundamentalist right like to quip, "you're either Christian or you're Catholic") the same right to adopt their children that they extended to Protestants? So if you end up being judged, too, don't say you had no idea "Christians" should be so judgmental. Baloney.

And she didn't appear in any skimpy clothes in her videos. All she did was say the words "baby baby".

26. Maybe she's growing up a little - in light of this:
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 09:49 AM by meganmonkey
JESSICA SIMPSON wants to know where missing footage of her and husband NICK LACHEY's harrowing trip to Iraq got to - because she thinks Americans would like to see just how bad conditions are there.

--snip--
But all the controversial moments and harrowing footage of the trip didn't appear in the fun-filled TV show.

Simpson says, "It was unbelievable. They didn't show a lot of what really went on with the enemy attacks and the shelling. There was so much stuff that went on and somehow the tapes got mysteriously misplaced.

"It put everything in perspective for me. It really did teach me the definition of sacrifice. I can't even fathom being out there right now. I was ready to come home."
