RW talking point: This is a politically-motivated prosecution conducted by an overzealous prosecutor.

My guess is two weeks before the indictments come down.

1. Yeah, but whose politics are they going to attack

The guy's a Republican

Of course, he may be real traditional Republican, not the neofacist wing that inhabit the Bush administration.

2. He's not a real Republican
I mean McCain's a Republican too, and look how the fascist wing of the Republican Party has treated him over the years.

7. Not a Republican - Registered as "NO AFFILIATION" -- see link here:
<snip>

Fitzgerald is careful to be apolitical in his targets and his public life alike. He registered to vote as an Independent in New York, only to discover, when he began receiving fundraising calls, that Independent was a political party. He re-registered with no affiliation, as he did later in Chicago.

3. The commission to look into tightening up leaks will do the job. Not
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 11:18 AM by applegrove
because it will shut Fitzgerald up - but because it will force journalists to shut up and not report the story.

Investigating and studying how to tighten up leaks and make it a criminal offense? A shot across the bow for journalists. Let us see how many of them fall pray to the fear shot directly at their hearts. How can journalists report if they no longer have any access to leakers? Look how willingly journalists took the heat (and were willing to go to court & jail) by not outing their sources in order that the system of leaks & sources is not compromised.

5. Journalists aren't the target
it's anonymous sources in the administration. Journalists aren't privy to classified information, so they wouldn't be liable.

10. It will shut their sources up! They don't care about court. They care
about their sources they have built relationships on for the last 30 years (in some cases). They all have sources in various departments. How do you think they write stories?

6. Seeing that Sen. Roberts' aide mentioned that he would be looking
into the Fitzgerald investigation ("It's been two years..."), I think we'll be seeing those talking points start up real soon now. I'm guessing that the goal is to lay the ground work for Gonzales to replace Fitzgerald.
