Here's my LTTE on Rove in today's paper.
‘They' say a lot of things

The GOP talking points say Valerie Plame, the wife of Joseph Wilson, was not covert, when in fact she was.

They say Karl Rove didn't leak her name, when in fact her name was not the secret, her identity was, and that's what Karl Rove leaked.

They claim Karl Rove didn't know Valerie Plame was covert, so why doesn't he state this for the record?

They say the Butler Report vindicated President Bush's State of the Union claim of Saddam seeking uranium in Africa, when in fact the Butler Report was a whitewash intended to exonerate Tony Blair and George Bush by excluding information which showed such Saddam-seeking-uranium claims to be false.

They claim Karl Rove isn't a target of Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation, when in fact he is a subject of the investigation.

They say the White House and the GOP can't comment because of the ongoing investigation, when in fact they felt free to call the questions regarding Rove and his role "totally ridiculous" until the latest story broke.

They say a lot of things, all of them lies, and when they run out of lies, all they have to say is "no comment."

2. Very good
All I would add is that, "And because of their lies, good men and women are dying every day, and we squander another billion dollars every week in service to those lies."

9. I've found with The Lincoln Journal if you end with a rhetorical flourish
They just print that final rhetorical flourish, and leave off the case you've made for your conclusion.

Now I write my letters in a way that makes it harder for them to edit, less conclusion, more case.

18. In other words, I'll never again give them more than a one sentence ending
so that they can't print just the ending as a stand alone letter.

I've noticed they do this printing of just the conclusion often with other letters which must have been originally much longer rants.

19. You know your paper and its editors better than I do
There may be a chance to do a follow up to your very fine letter after the usual wingnuts go all nutzoid on it. You can probably hear them now, "Plame wasn't covert," "Plame was a desk jockey," "Plame was the mistress of the universe," "old news," etc., etc. Maybe that will be the time make some conclusory statements about how all this fudging of facts by the corrupt Bush administration continues to have negative repercussions to this day.

7. Outstanding. Reminds me of a new Brian Lehrer show feature
I was listening to a rebroadcast last night; the NPR talkshow host is doing a new feature called "Commentary Slam". They're giving people 90 seconds of airtime to make their case.

It's been fascinating to hear Brian and his co-judge, a Daily News editorial page editor, critique the messages. I think FWIW that your LTE, good as it was in print, would've been excellent read aloud.

Anyway if you're interested in doing just that, you might want to click here:

22. Very good letter. I went another direction, forgetting the
legal, zeroing in on the cowardice of of the junta. They committed the crimes, but only women are paying for them. They attacked Plame to get even with her husband. Miller went to jail protecting them, and none of them are man enough to step forward. They'd rather save their own skins by letting her rot in jail.

It was aimed at the red state patriarch society I live in. Only a coward would put a woman in jeopardy.
