I just called the police...
I left my workplace, and drove down an adjoining street and a lady was standing with a young teen girl, at a stop sign, and the lady called out to me, saying "Hey" and half pointing at the girl. I do not live far away, about 2 minutes in moderate traffic, so I got home and called the police to tell them about it. I told them to send a unmarked car, as they probably would just walk away if they saw a squad car. What the fuck is wrong with people!

5. You called the cops on someone for saying "hey"?
What did you suspect was happening?

10. I have no doubt she was trying to prostitute her child...
there are quite a few prostitutes in the area, and if you had been there, and saw what I saw, her gesturing at the kid, it appeared that was her goal. I hope I am wrong, but I do not think so.

Maybe you should put that in the OP. Nothing worse than child exploitation.

If that's the case, I hope they catch her. Sick!

9. Man, I wasn't even in the ballpark with this one....
I had no idea whatsoever that this is what this post was getting at.

But that being said, what would the police arrest them on? Pointing and saying "Hey!"?

12. The poster said that he told the cops to send a plain car...
If the woman is prostituting the child and flags down a cop to solicit prostitution, then that would be the problem with the "hey."

It doesn't hurt to send the cop. It could be tragic not to.

8. Um...think I'm missing something here
A lady was standing there with a teenage girl and the lady hollers "Hey" at you. Why call the cops on something like that? Was either person being mugged or breaking the law? Just because two people are hanging out seems to be no reason to call cops. I guess maybe I'm missing something here.

17. She was pointing to a child, leaning on a fence...
both looking at me, and she said "Hey" and with the lower part of her arm, pointed at the child, as if to be discrete. Like I said, I hope I was wrong, but I felt as though she was offering up the girl. Most people do not say "Hey" to strangers that stop at stop signs, and then point at their child.

Many people would not have acted on what their gut was telling them. I am so happy that you called the police, you may have saved a little girl.

23. Ok ok
See, I come from what is truly small town America. While there is prostitution in this city, it is mostly concentrated in a small area and the police keep a good handle on it. If that woman was pimping out her kid, she should be in jail. Probably a crack addict or something like that.

21. Was she eating a french fry?
Sorry. Serious subject. Bad joke.

I hope it wasn't what you think it was -- because that's one of those things that sometimes happen in this world that I just can't wrap my brain around. Billionaires fabricating a war and killing thousands of innocent people to make more billions is another.

25. This is the social fabric of the neo-con America
I can't believe the rate of prostitution in my community, it's exploding. I don't really care that much, except that they are mostly desperate addicts. And despite the most draconian drug laws, the epidemic of addicts robbing and stealing continues unabated. The ranks of the hopeless and the damned line our streets. There aren't enough police to pick them up.

27. Community first
I don't like a police state. On the other hand there is a community public service officer who knows the neighborhood, lets me pass whan I'm not calling his attention to me. There was a person who would stop and beg from customers going into the local store. Get someone with a uniform to walk by and at one glance the problem would be solved
