Turdblossomgate: Cooper testified for 2.5 hours today
http://www.mediainfo.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000978699

"NEW YORK Time's magazine's Matt Cooper today testified to a grand jury that White House aide Karl Rove was a source for a story about a CIA operative that has investigators deciding whether any laws were broken by the leak of the agent's identity."

So now we'll see if Fitzgerald has enough info to wrap this up without Miller testifying. Remember there was more than one source so I expect more revelations to be forthcoming, hopefully with indictments.

The Republican spin machine is in overdrive, but in this caser there is a criminal investigation that has not been waylaid by all this noise. From all reports Fitzgerald and several of the judges who ruled on the Cooper and Miller appeals have indicated that this is a serious case with big national security implications. The case would not have gone this far to be closed with no action, so the Republicans can shout all they want but at this point they have no control over the Grand Jury.

1. Exactly
Check out this graf from the WaPo story today:

Privately, even Rove's staunchest supporters said the situation could explode if federal prosecutors accuse Rove or any other high-level official of committing a crime. William Kristol, a conservative commentator with close White House ties, said it would be hard to imagine a prosecutor conducting an investigation that has landed one reporter in jail and challenged the constitutional rights of the journalism profession without indicting someone. Special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald "is the problem for the White House, and we have no idea what he knows," Kristol said.

Kristol is right; I'm certain there will be indictments, and you can be damn sure the situation will "explode." The Repukes can attack Wilson all they want, and try to win the spin game. It makes no difference.

Fitzgerald IS their problem.

2. Indeed, Fitzgerald is bringing the heat. And, it must be considerable...
.... given what the judges he has stood before have had to say about the case. Key phrase: "national security."

Just check:

Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - How ever long it takes, the day must come when tens of millions of caring individuals peacefully but persistently defy the dictator, deny the corporatists their cash flow, and halt the evil being done in Iraq and in all the other places the Bu$h neoconster regime is destroying civilization and the environment in the name of "America."

6. Nope.
Wrong guy to try it with. I agree they'd like to try, but it's not an option available to them. They have to attack Wilson & Plame. But that's going to turn on them.

7. Turdgate it is!
And I can smell it all the way from Connecticut. This is no ordinary scandal. Talking points cannot undo what Fitzgerald has uncovered. From all reports he seems to be the unusual person who thrives on exposing and putting away criminals no matter how high their position. He's got a Turd on the run this time!
