Why it's impossible to argue with Freepers
Certainly not because they are right...

You argue with these idiots, and it will always go to "You hate America", or Get lost commie" or something equally emotionally retarded. I have wondered why they do this for a long time. What kind of satisfaction can they get from that? Why can't they use logic and come to a reasonable ending to an argument, even if it's to agree to disagree? I thought for a while that maybe it was because they are so convinced of their position, but there still at it, even after all that's come out in the last 5 years, so that can't be it. There's really only one thing left:

The want the world to suck up to them.

Freepers are stuck in adolescence. They're continually reliving being shoved in their lockers when they were 13, or being publicly pantsed, or having the cheerleader call them "icky" at the school assembly. And they never got over it, so they have developed a world view based on how everyone is a jerk but them and the world owes them a favor.

Look at their views on just about anything. Foreigners are all scary and not to be trusted, unless they are white and suck up to the US. there aren't any countries that are as good as the US about anything-all of them continually abouse their citizens, especially the brown-skinned countries, who of course aren't capable of anythign approaching a democracy without the good old US stepping in to show them how it's done. And then, for the US citizenry, the only real career anyone can ever have is in the military (other than corporate tool, because they make a lot of money) because all the "real men" go there to prove how truly macho they are. Anyone else that works for the government is a parasite, because all government services should be free and the government should suck up to Joe Citizen.

See how all their ideals revolve around paying homage to them? At their core, all they talk about, truly, is how they don't get the kingly treatment they deserve. Apparently they think they just don't get any respect from the world. They probably don't get any respect-how can anyone expect people to respect them if all they do is whine about how much everyone owes them?

Pitiful little things, really. They'll always be such little people.

1. You figure out a way to argue with willful, stubborn ignorance
and you'll make a fortune. Arrested Development is exactly right.

2. Unfortunately, your description fits more than a few liberals,

perhaps all of us at times. Humans are not entirely logical creatures at all times.

8. No, it really only fits a very few
Of course, not everyone is logical all the time, but (and yes, there are a few liberals too but not that many) I'm talking about the type that will keep their beliefs after they have been proved wrong to their face. Most people will begin to change their mind when they are shown that their view is wrong. Freepers will claim that it is a conspiracy to keep them from being sucked up to.

15. "...it is a conspiracy to keep them from being sucked up to...."
Well stated, concise and absolutely TRUE.

You cannot REASON with someone who insists that FACTS and LOGIC
are always BIASED against them.

The sad truth about Freepers:
They have the emotional development of a 2-year-old;

and when they DENY "facts and LOGIC",
they consider themselves CLEVER for conceiving such an
insurmountable arguement.

So their childish worldview remains forever unaltered,
like a diaper that goes unchanged for decades.

They sit, GLEEFULLY wallowing in their own FECES,
and take pride as the pile grows ever larger.

Someone compared them to Fred Birch society, love it or leave it types.
Poor victims of arrested mental and emotional development for sure.

It's really not them that is the enemy, per se. They are more like the enemies blind, inbred guard dog that will eat its own poop if you don't keep him away from it.

7. You remind me of a young attorney the other day . . .
.
You remind me of a young inexperienced attorney the other day . . . who, bless him, was trying to interject reasonableness into something one of his clients did and said. It was a criminal case. And I'd be damned. This young attorney had a very hard time understanding that his client and his client's behavior was unreasonable; and that the client was dysfunctional from the getgo.

In other words, he was attempting to place reasonableness and sound judgment upon his client who was incapable of any reasonable thought whatsoever let alone behavior! Aahhhh, I said to myself . . . this kid will learn. Indeed. After he gets his nose skinned a few times. He will shortly understand that a portion of the population can never be reasonable.

So it goes w/ Freepers. They are who they are because of who they are. Any attempt to contrive anything more is an effort in futility.

10. You're right. I usually approach these things with the idea that
my opponenet is reasonable. And I like to think that most people are. What bothers me the most is that the portion of unreasonable people is so big...

Nah. It only LOOKS that way because "they" are in the . . . White House, thus are of power presently. However, looking at it more broadly and you will ascertain that it's only a very small percentage of people that are of that ignoramus mindset, if you will. If it were more then this country would have taken a nose dive, permanently, a very long time ago. Thomas Jefferson's "experiment" would have been a failure.

This too shall pass. Bush and Company will dump upon themselves and awaken the country to eject their brand of unreasonableness. Patience.

18. There may also be some subtle understanding on their part...
... that they're going to lose most arguments if they proceed logically, because the facts aren't with them. It's so much easier to use the tools that help you win the argument--straw men, ad hominem attacks and the like--even if rational people understand them for what they are.

That's part of the political debate today, things which would never be acceptable in formal debate.

Cheers.
