New yard Sign: Lives For Lies

I put this new yard sign up yesterday, just in time for Bush's speech. My wife and I have had a similar sign up since last November, which is updated daily.

Several people have thanked us for keeping it updated. We have had no direct negative comments, but several people have informed us that they have received negative comments from the Re pugs down the street.

I've had three Impeach Bush.org signs stolen, this one looks a bit more permanent, maybe it won't get stolen.

14. How the sign was made.

The sign is made of 3/8" exterior grade plywood, and measures 36" high by 48" wide.

It is supported by four 1x3's that are each 4ft long. (3 feet on the back off the sign and one foot extending below the sign.) The legs in the front are screwed to the plywood. There are two legs in the back that are fastened with hinges. The legs in the back are fastened about 10" down from the top, so they can extend back away from the sign like a tripod.

I used 20ga x 8"x24" steel plates for the numbers, and an 8" x 18" steel plate for the date numbers. The steel plates a secured to the plywood with wood screws. I used caulking around the edges of the metal to prevent water from seeping under the metal, before I painting it. (Otherwise I would probably get rust streaks after a while.)

The numbers for the KIA, WIA and date are made of 1/2" wide magnetic strips, that came in twenty five feet rolls. I could only find the magnets with self adhesive, so I had to stick two pieces together back to back. I cut the strips into 3" long pieces. The numbers for the date are slightly smaller.

The sign is secured with a heavy wire cable. I drove a grounding rod into the ground, and then bolted the wire cable to the grounding rod, and the other end is bolted to the back of the sign. If someone wants the sign they will have to have a wrench or good bolt cutters.

I was able to purchase everything I needed at Lowe's.

The sign is fairly heavy, so if they do manage to remove the able, I cant imagine them walking very far with it, unless their car is nearby.

. . . but most people won't care unless they are directly effected. But you can bet your last dollar that those same people will be yelling their heads off if the reinstate the draft.

Our original KIA/WIA sign went up right after the election. It said:
"You reap what you sow" (Sow was crossed out and replaced with "Vote".
