MTP - Bono says * has done a great job on stopping AIDS in
Africa and if he will just do a little more he will go down in history as a great man that saved Africa. Now, everything * has said in 5 years has been a lie and I remember there were problems with what he promised to send to Africa. Has he doubled AIDS funding for Africa? Has he done anything to help Africa besides trying to steal yet more oil?

1. Yeah, he's let them commit genocide on each other.
AIDS can't survive without carriers.

2. WTF has Bono been smoking?
Or maybe he figures the best way to get * to actually do something is by stroking his ego?

4. I'm sure that's exactly what
bono thinks. Good Luck with that..the bushits don't want any money going there..they need it for Iraq.

And The Americans haven't let bush steal their Social Security, yet.

10. Not buttering. I think he is challenging * in a "nice" way to follow

through and make a decisive commitment. I think Bono is a fool if this is what he believes this will work.

BTW... most of the money we give to Africa for AIDS is giving to a Rev. Moonie organization that teaches abstinence only. That is planned genocide.

14. Bono did mention that the prevention/teaching aid is very much lacking
in bush's aid package.

I'm certain he is just buttering up bush. He knows how to play politics.

7. Boner can go away now. Maybe he and Jane Fonda can go on a date together.
Both seem to be pretty *-happy these days; maybe they're taking the same dope.

12. Being a huge U2 fan
I can say that I have been dissapointed in Bono's unwillingness to bash Bush as he did Reagan. However, Bono has realized that bashing Bush or any other politician will get his cause nowhere. He has said many times recently that positivity will help, not hurt. I agree with that. However, Bono is deluded if he thinks Bush will do anything but wipe his ass with the needs of the poor in Africa. Look how he treats America's poor. The Bono that wrote "Bullet the blue sky" needs to make a return appearance.

15. Right- Let's take one sentence from the whole interview
and put it into a context where Bono sounds like a Bush Apologist.

I listened intently to the whole thing and thought he said what any diplomat would say.

He has a sincere love for America- but like a disillusioned lover he sees past the facade of beauty and into the soul of a loved one turned dark and lifeless, America under the Bush Administration-

"Crumbs From Your Table" from "How To Dismantle..."

From the brightest star
Comes the blackest hole
You had so much to offer
Why did you offer your soul?
I was there for you baby
When you needed my help
Would you deny for others
What you demand for yourself?

Cool down mama, cool off
Cool down mama, cool off

You speak of signs and wonders
I need something other
I would believe if I was able
But I’m waiting on the crumbs from your table

You were pretty as a picture
It was all there to see
Then your face caught up with your psychology
With a mouth full of teeth
You ate all your friends
And you broke every heart thinking every heart mends

You speak of signs and wonders
But I need something other
I would believe if I was able
But I’m waiting on the crumbs from your table

Where you live should not decide
Whether you live or whether you die
Three to a bed
Sister Ann, she said
Dignity passes by

And you speak of signs and wonders
But I need something other
I would believe if I was able
I’m waiting on the crumbs from your table

16. He's actually putting his cause first
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 10:50 AM by julialnyc
What a person does is much more important than what he says and Bono is trying to do something right now rather than letting his ego take over and rant.

Bottom line, he is trying to get money for Africa and the worst way to do that would be to insult the person with the wallet. He is actually saying "Bush be cool, make people respect you and write you down in the history books" (I'm sure Bush isn't used to someone like Bono being complimentary of him...... ego stroking goes along way with huge egos). I'm sure deep down Bono can't stand Bush, but it is a pretty clever tactic to challenge someone rather than put them on the defensive by attacking them.

18. "Go back to Dublin and find a bottle to crawl into"...
The late Phil Hartman as "Frank Sinatra" to "Bono"
My sentiments exactly.
Bono is a terrible singer and a ridiculous twit. Always has been. Always will be.

19. The fact that he's a rock star
or Irish doesn't disqualify him from having a cause he cares deeply about. I'm sure he knows more about Africa than you do and I'm sure he's doing more for Africa than you are.
What exactly makes him "ridiculous?"

22. What exactly makes him more "knowledgeable" than myself?
The fact that he is a VERY WEALTHY AND FAMOUS rock star?
Uh, the quote I posted was from a comedy sketch. But I really shouldn't expect such a passionate defender of Mr Hewson to be attuned to humor. It just doesn't go with the territory.

25. At least he's trying
to help. Hey, I'm no huge U2 fan, but I think he is doing a wonderful thing. Who cares if he's rich and famous, at least he's using his familiar face to bring good.

He's trying to help people, so I am not put off if he tries to butter someone up even if that is Bush. It is probably embarrassing to Bono to be kind to Bush, but he is not putting himself first.

Who cares about his music quality.......... people love U2 and because of that there is tons of money to be raised.

20. Bob Geldof said something similar
A few years back, during AWOL's first reign.

Something about how much better AWOL was than Clinton in caring about Africa.

Wonder how he feels about this now, as he's spearheading the new "Live Aid" for the G8 conference?

Maybe these people just listen to AWOL talk, and believe what he says?

24. I have always excused James Brown's idiotic comments by...
reminding myself "Well, he's a MUSICAL genius, y'know" but it just doesn't work for the likes of Bono and Gedolf. Neither are geniuses (of any type), and they are both only marginally musical.
