***THIS*** is how Republicans circle the wagons, friends
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 03:51 PM by Bluebear

.....Rep. Duncan Hunter (news, bio, voting record) (R-El Cajon) ) said that "people should remember that Duke Cunningham has honorably served this country, sometimes in great danger, for 35 years."

.....Throughout his career, Cunningham's views have been conservative and his rhetoric sometimes bombastic. He has referred to gays as "homos," made a derogatory quip about the openly gay Rep. Barney Frank (news, bio, voting record) (D-Mass.), and suggested that
Bill Clinton's antiwar past would have made him a candidate for being "tried as a traitor and even shot" had he lived in another country....

On Wednesday, a resolution he sponsored that would give Congress the power to ban desecration of the flag was approved 286 to 130 and forwarded to the Senate. The resolution was among 15 bills Cunningham sponsored in 2004.

Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas), the House majority leader, refused on Tuesday to comment on whether Cunningham's house sale should be referred to the Ethics Committee. Cunningham has contributed $5,000 of his campaign funds to DeLay's legal defense fund as he fights controversies of his own. "Duke Cunningham is an honorable man," DeLay told reporters. "He is a war hero. He was the first Top Gun."

That's how they celebrate their own. Meanwhile they are allowed to refer to OUR war heroes like this:

1. If he was such a great pilot, how come he got shot down?
I know its a bullshit argument but its typical of the form of logic that they use to deceive people.

3. "It's OK that he may have cheated, he was a hero!"
But John Kerry "shot himself" to get out of serving, right, conservatives?

"I have flown an F-14 over this Capitol with a 20 mm gun that could shoot 6000 rounds a minute. I could disintegrate this hall in a half-a-second burst." --S.D.Union-Tribune, 5/7/1994

When speaking about John Kerry, said "We do not need someone that would vote like a Jane Fonda as commander in chief." --Congressional Record, April 22, 2004

“I would have no hesitation about lining them up and shooting them {Vietnam War protesters} . . Those people should be shot for what they did to us over there.” (Feb. 2002 to a Blade-Citizen reporter)

10. It's also fair after their attacks on Kerry, who in the Navy
was courageous and intelligent enough to save himself and his men from what would have been a devastating attack. If his exceptional record can be attacked, why are McCain's and this guy's less than exceptional records sacrosanct. - because they're Republicans
