The developer in TX offering a "safe" neighborhood -- SCAM(ish)
I just heard an interview with the developer. People who pay extra money for this, or think they'll be safe, are totally being scammed. The guy said that, for their money, all he's going to do is check the sex-offender registry. No criminal background check ("none of our business," he says), no nothing a homeowner couldn't do for free with a few minutes online or at town hall.

These people are playing on FEAR. And they're in Texas. I guess they learned a few tricks from Idiot-Boy Prez, but sheesh.

1. Fear is the new patriotism
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 06:00 AM by ixion
somehow the 'cons have managed to equate fear with being a brave, true 'Murikan. I understand it requires drinking Kool-Aid® and with logic like these people are falling for I can understand why. There is no way I could rewire my brain to literally reverse everything I know to be Good and Right and truly Patriotic, with some type of outside influence. Seriously, people who are under this collective spell are working up a whopping case of cognitive dissonance that will, collectively, do us no good at all.

2. This will either backfire in their faces, or it will set a disturbing
trend....With the direction our country is headed in now I'd be heavily on option 2. Soon we will see, 'Evangelical Living at it's finest'...And 'Make sure your community is Gay and Lesbian free.'. or how about 'Living the Conservative dream in a "liberal" free community.'
I can only see bad things coming from this down the line.

4. Bad things down the line...no kidding!
This could set such a dangerous trend.

Will a pervert already living in the community feel emboldened?

Will "outside" neighborhoods turn into cesspools of riff-raff?

Will these gated communities start "warring" among themselves for municipal funding and attention? Schools?

It is just a scary thought.

5. Hope he has a lot of Insurance....
Not all pedophiles have been caught. This just gives the home owners a false feeling of security. And if you were a pedophile, wouldn't a set of homes where people were less on guard of their children be a big selling point....
