Leave it to Ted.....WHERE'S JOHN KERRY?
And so WHERE'S JOHN KERRY ON THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE? As usual, John promised action, but once again.... and again....

From Raw Story: http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Kennedy_speaks_out_on_Downing_Street_Memo_Twisted_intelligence_Distorted_f_0607.html

The following was released by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) on the Downing Street Minutes this morning. Kennedy becomes the first senator to raise the issue in the Senate, after earlier reports that Massachusetts' junior senator, John Kerry, would speak about the minutes in Washington.

“The contents of the Downing Street Minutes confirm that the Bush Administration was determined to go to war in Iraq, regardless of whether there was any credible justification for doing so. The Administration distorted and misrepresented the intelligence in its attempt to link Saddam Hussein with the terrorists of 9/11 and Osama bin Laden, and with weapons of mass destruction that Iraq did not have.

"In addition, the Downing Street Minutes also confirm what has long been obvious – that the timing of the war was linked to the 2002 Congressional elections, and that the Administration’s planning for post-war Iraq was incompetent in all its aspects. The current continuing crisis is a direct result of that incompetence.

75. TIME TO GET REAL!!
John Kerry is like every career politician - they only care about the Status Quo. 99% reelection of incumbents on both sides just proves that the bi-polar nature of the two party system may create fantastic mood swings but in the end the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. that phreakin' BS intro at the DNC was absolutely IDIOTIC!
why focus on proper service as a soldier when war is OBSOLETE!

why focus on proper service as a soldier when war is OBSOLETE!

forget about the death and destruction for a moment. there is and never will be a positive outcome of war; esp. when it is an IMPERIALIST OCCUPATION! this action is one of short-sighted greed and xenophobia.

I mean, Kerry was just the safe choice because Dean has already been crucified in the media. take a moment and recall just how phukt up the memetics were. I mean, gosh, we can't have a politician get too excited about taking on the evil empire, right?

the greatest fear they have is that someone, not sure if it'll be Dean or not, will trigger a passion that will fuel the downfall of imperialism.

On edit: Kerry is a seasoned prosecutor. I have faith in him to bring all the facts to light. Apparently there is more to the DSM than was thought before, as exhibited in the video referenced above.
It's amazing... a MUST SEE !!

I wish you Kerry bashers would just shut your pie hole. You were the same people who were complaining that the media will turn the act of Kerry breaching the subject of the DSM into a case of "election loss sour grapes". So Kennedy spoke up first... big deal. I think it was a brilliant strategy and agree with Marnieworld that this is a coordinated attack. Something bigger is coming... but because it isn't a full on WWF Smackdown from the opening gavel this morning, I suppose it's easier to start slamming Kerry before he's even had a chance to talk. Why don't we see how the week progresses before we start nay saying eh??

It's plain and simple folks - Kerry is not a leader. He is a career politician who simply won't take a stand unless he has a poll showing support for it.

Yes, I supported Kerry in 2004 but then I fell for the "electability" label. Better to go down fighting with Dean then whimpering with Kerry.:banghead:

How long does it take? The minutes were published by the Times on May 1. That's thirty-seven days ago. Seems like enough time to me.

On the other hand, it's clearly wrong to single out Kerry on this one. Every last one of these Senate bastards (Dem AND Repub) should have been screaming bloody murder from day one. Particularly since some of them presumably knew about this at the time, three years ago.

Beating up Kerry on this as though he's more derelict than any of the rest of them is just mean and petty and stupid. Kinda like the Senate. I guess we should just try to keep moving forward...

35. Well, it's like this
The Lowly Junior Senator from Massachusetts and the lofty Senior Senator from Massachusetts drew straws. The short straw winner (as usual, the lowly junior Senator, sigh) had to break the ice and mention it first in the old home state. That way, he got dumped on first and got the expectations game. It was ever thus.

Then the Lofty Senior Senator from Masachusetts swooped in with his accustomed grace and poise and got to mention it in a coherent manner and look good. (After the Lowly Junior Senator had already mentioned it first.)

The Lowly Junior Senator has to get a better straw-picker. Me thinks he is getting the short end of this deal.

But, on the up side, everyone on DU now knows that both Senators from the Eastern-most State of Massachusetts have, in fact, read the minutes and have come to an opinion on them. How about both Senators in other states?

Here goes...

The Downing Street Minutes say that CuckooBananas and Bliar were discussing a war with Iraq prior to a year before the USA and Britain launched their attack. The minutes say that people high up in the Bliar administration were convinced by personal meetings with CuckooBananas that a war with Iraq was a foregone conclusion and that there would be an attempt to cook the intelligence to fit that conclusion.

This is very troubling because it validates what Paul O'Neill, Richard Clarke, and a plethora of others have been saying about the war in Iraq all along. All except for John Kerry and the rest of the tutu Democrats who "would have supported the war even knowing what I know now."

So now, John Kerry is going to make a major speech about the DSM. Fine, I certainly hope that he includes the fact that he was wrong all along about Iraq and that the Iraq war was wrong. He needs to do that because it's the only way to maintain a consistent position. One cannot think that the war in Iraq is still the right thing to do and support the outrage of the DSM.

Kennedy spoke to Rawstory, just as Kerry has already made statements to the press. Furthermore, wait for the debate on Bolton, because I am willing to wager $$$ that that is how Kerry will introduce the DSM into the Senate record, forcing the repubs to make statements about it, and giving the talking heads & spinsters very little ammo to use on the Dems for bringing it up. Pure gold for us. Just 'f'ing wait.

57. You know....
I think there are people who would have a mind to tell you to shut your pie-hole... I'm certain there's at least one person who feels that way.

I'd like to know how you take Senator Kerry saying he will raise the issue when he returns to Washington to mean he's going to give a speech on the Senate floor. Just how the hell do you make that leap? Kerry was the first one to speak out about the Downing Street Minutes, and you, and people like you, are the first to bash him even then! It's fucking unbelievable that some people seem to live to bash one of our best fighters in the Senate every bloody damn chance they get. Seriously, don't you have something better to do with your time! For that matter, how many LTTE's have you written to your local paper on the issue to inform the people in your town? How much have you done to put forward liberal causes? Because you're sure as hell not doing it by bashing Senator John F. Kerry. Furthermore, I am sure that no matter what Kerry did you, and other biased people like you, would be quick to attack the man no matter what – why don’t you expend some of that enemy attacking your president, Bush?
:eyes:

59. Perhaps these Senate colleagues have decided on a tag-team
approach?
Kennedy gets the story out there...pugs dispute, then Kerry comes in and closes the deal.
It seems a brilliant strategy to me.

64. I'm just waiting patiently. My grandfather ALWAYS told me just give them
enough rope and they will hang themselves. By the way, he was a constant nagging Government Whistleblower! He served in WWII and then retired for most of the rest of his life at the Army Depot in Pueblo, Colorado, and ranched/farmed on the side (cows and alfalfa) . (1500 acres spread out over a 30 mile radius)

Interesting times. This is all so much bigger than any scandal-Gate preceding.

This bunch will hang. Rest assured.

63. Ya know. gee. I wonder if they've discussed this with each other.
I wonder. yeah. This is a tough one. Two senators from the same state. Nah the two are totally unrelated.
:sarcasm:

65. Legitimate questions based on past experience
So, just where is John Kerry's statement? Why did Kennedy's come first? Maybe it's a strategy. Maybe not. But why the hell is everyone jumping on the poster for raising these legitimate questions? Kerry's performance in the campaign and after the Ohio debacle was subpar. Defend it all you want, it was unworthy of the man I voted for. Having voted for him, and still maintaing the illusion that I live in a democracy, I'll question him when I think he's wrong. He works for me - and you - not the other way around. And I'll praise him when I think he's right. Which he has been consistently and impressively, especially in the 70s, and in the past several weeks as well.

But now this bullshit again... Go ahead and pile on, Kerry Koddlers. Just remember - he was my candidate, too.

So I won't be "shutting my pie-hole." Until I hear him open his. btw - your protests and oaths of fealty are starting to remind me of all the "not this president" bullshit out of McClellan and the wingnuts. Try questioning again. Even the pols you love. It leads to better service from the folks who work for you. And me.

68. LET ME SAY THIS SLOOOOWLY.
Kerry -- yes, John Forbes Kerry -- was the first to bring this into the lime-light. He said he would raise the issue. He and Senator Kennedy are from the same state. Get it?
