Poll question: Was the WORST Dem President better than ANY Repuke?
Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 11:28 AM by TruthIsAll
Consider ALL Republican and Democratic Presidents since 1900.

Don't count Lincoln: he was THE best..

On Edit: If you said NO, name the Repuke and the Dem.

Don't forget, today's modern Repug Party sprung from the Dixiecrats.

2. Not misleading at all.. I asked a simple question..
Compare all the Dems to all the Repugs.

And your premise is wrong. The Republican party existed long before Dixiecrats went over to Nixon and Reagan, neither of whom came from the South.

3. My vote: Every Dem beats the best Repub (Eisenhower)
I thoink Ike was a better president than he has been given credit for. But every Dem, from Wilson to Clinton, was better qualified and worked harder..

6. Most qualified President of the last hundred years
no question in my mind. It was Herbert Hoover. Ever read his resume?

Just proves qualification doesn't make the best president. I don't think he was as bad as people claim though. In the Depression, he went further than any other president before him in getting the government involved in the economy and relief. The fact that FDR went way further than him leaves his efforts seem puny, but for his time, he went far in that new directeion.

4. Here's a list of presidents since 1900
Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 11:46 AM by Skinner
For me, it's easier to consider this question if I have a list of presidents in front of me...

25. William McKinley (R)
26. Theodore Roosevelt (R)
27. William H. Taft (R)
28. Woodrow Wilson (D)
29. Warren G. Harding (R)
30. Calvin Coolidge (R)
31. Herbert Hoover (R)
32. Franklin D. Roosevelt (D)
33. Harry S. Truman (D)
34. Dwight D. Eisenhower (R)
35. John F. Kennedy (D)
36. Lyndon B. Johnson (D)
37. Richard M. Nixon (R)
38. Gerald R. Ford (R)
39. Jimmy Carter (D)
40. Ronald Reagan (R)
41. George Bush (R)
42. William Clinton (D)
43. George W. Bush (R)

I'd be interested to hear who people think are the worst Dem president and the best Republican president.

8. WILSON?
Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 02:20 PM by Darranar
Wilson was a fine president.

Regarding the thread:
For the 20th century... Well, ALL the Repubs were bad, including TR (he was an imperialistic warmonger, however progressive his domestic views were.) So, for the 20th century, I say that every Dem was better than every Repub.

On edit: I changed my mind. I think clinton was worse than TR, simply because of the sanctions on Iraq. I'll never forgive him.

12. Wilson was a racist and didn't want to give women the right to vote.
Not only that he LIED and brought the United States into WWI - a war we probably didn't need to go into.

13. Wilson was a RACIST?
I've never heard that before.

And he agreed to woman's suffrage. His relucatnce to work for it didn't mean that he didn't want it.

18. On TR's imperialism...
which of his many imperialist invasions would you say is the worst?

The one or two that really wipe out all the Progressive Era advances like National Parks and Drug standards.

20. Yep. Wilson was really bad
and John Ashcroft would be considered a civil libertarian compared to Wilson's Attorney General Mitchell Palmer.

17. More TR
National Parks
Pure Food and Drug Act
Meat Inspection Act

Wilson

Reelect Wilson because "He Kept Us Out Of War,"
As soon as reelected, he asked Congress to declare war less than a year into his second term.

9. Andrew Johnson was the worst dem... but that was pre-1900
Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 02:16 PM by TheDonkey
Looking at that list, I'd say the worst dem (Wilson) trumps the best Rethuglian. Teddy Roosevelt wasn't really a (R) anyway ;) .

Edit: For clarification I like Wilson, I just think he is the least liked out of the bunch.

as even worsier than Andrew Johnson who was bad enough, if we're allowed to reach into the previous century.
