The 'net and bloggers.. and more
"Ok-new conspiracy theory developing here. I tend to be a bit of a synthesist, so conspiracy theory is my test platform, taking discrete and apparently unlike elements and creating a coherent whole. Has this occured here yet? Here goes.

Just thinking about a couple of e-mails I received this week strongly urging me to take action with regard to the FEC and political blogging. I am definitely concerned, as their desire for control over the 'net is one more example of an administration full of control freaks running amok."

1. Well they don't like having no control over the internet
This place is a wild west with people running around and making all kinds of comment and publishing every imaginable story and it is getting organised, however it is not being controlled in any way shape or form by the government or by corporations.

Even though the corporate world has some control over the internet by hosting various websites and providing news, it has very little control over the content either and cannot influence the people like it used to.

One of the key points of the PNAC is:
“Control the new ‘international commons’ of space and ‘cyberspace,’ and pave the way for the creation of a new military service—U.S. Space Forces—with the mission of space control.”

And control over the internet has not been established yet. So they are slowly trying to do it. People tend to forget that most things happen really slow and the FEC is the first test and once that gets established and more or less organised to some degree, you can start to expand it.

The same goes to the war games. That game was for 2020. Why that year? Why pretend it is something which happening in the far future, or is that the long term schedule where they plan to have control in 2020.

Anyway. This is just speculation. Pay no attention to me. I'm just talking about of my ass :kick:

2. I think it is scary, though. I rely on the 'net for information that
isn't being allowed to slip through the filter of the corporate news media. To have the internet effectively shut down in the way the news has been will leave me more or less deaf, dumb, and blind with regards to what is really going on. Which, of course, is the whole point of strangling it in the first place.

4. It isn't total control
Don't get me wrong. They don't want total control either. They want filter out some stuff and change some stuff and make sure that somethings are buried very deep and other things are on top.

Just like they do with the media. It isn't full control, because that would be to complex and people would really get notice it and you don't want the people unhappy either and feeling oppressed.

So some stuff will slip. Just like MP3s, Warez, videos and all that kinda of stuff slips through the internet as well (Laissez Passer - like the French say). Think of it as tunnel vision.

5. They have to do it that way. To take total and obvious control is to risk
stirring up the unwashed masses. Doing it the way you suggest leaves the masses shrugging their shoulders and saying "C'est la vie".
