William Pryor Jr. Why he shouldn't be confirmed.....
What might sway moderate Republicans away from him?

Why should Centrist Democrats not touch it?

We know he's a big nicotine pusher. We know that he thinks gays don't have any civil rights.

What else?

1. Why he likely will be confirmed...
Republicans: 55
Democrats: 44
Independent: 1

Even if say, five Republicans are convinced to vote nay, we're stuck at 50/50 with Crashcart Cashcow breaking the tie. That's assuming that not one of the seven Democrats who brokered the Compromise of 2005 votes "yea" - an assumption I am not willing to make.

I realize this does not answer your questions. It is, however, a sad fact.

3. All of Bush's nominees will be confirmed.
The Republicans didn't have to detonate the "nuclear option", the Democrats pushed the button on the "neutron option" themselves. It's done, any filibuster now will simply be killed by Frist and Chaney and with little fanfare...

5. Well, let's see what kind of escapees from Nuremberg
Bush puts up to replace them. Or Bush may just re-nominate those two - then what? The Democrats have missed the only opportunity they had to force the Republicans' hand and put on public display exactly what they are - fascists. Now, it will be business as usual and with the Republicans, again, facing no responsibility for their actions. I guess it's just a bad morning for me...

7. Yeah...it's not the best deal in the world...
But we still need to treat it as a victory...politically it may be a winner. ANything that makes the Republicans whine this loudly can't be all bad.

6. Here's why.
William Pryor Jr. served as Attorney General of Alabama, where he took money from Phillip Morris, fought against the anti-tobacco lawsuit until it was almost over, and cost the people of Alabama billions in settlement money for their healthcare system as a result.7 He called Roe v. Wade "the worst abomination of constitutional law in our history," and has consistently argued against federal protections for the civil rights of minorities, lesbian and gay couples, women, and the disabled.8
