Doesn't he have enough say about putting shitty, ugly, skyline murdering pieces of trash around town as it is?

Shaddap, Donald.

1. He doesn't
They asked him what he thought.

He told them.

I, for one, blame Pataki.

And, oh yes, those guys who hijacked the planes had something to do with it, too.

2. Because he can afford to build them.
However, I do agree with him on this point.
I'd rather them rebuild the towers than put up that awful Freedom (propaganda-named) Tower.

9. 125th Street isn't Downtown.
You must not be from New York.

I'm not too crazy with your implication that money OUGHT to buy influence, either.

Welcome to DU, by the way. You've made some brilliant contributions since you've been here.

11. Money Talks, Bullshit Walks.
"125th Street isn't Downtown."

No kidding.

Com'n, you know the rules. They were invented way before you and I were born, it doesn't matter whether someone likes them or not, and it answers your question.

4. Because Donald Trump is the reincarnation of Ramses II...
pharoe of egypt... who, in his time, renamed everything "Ramses" and who,
combined with the reincarnate cult of souls who travel with him, want
to carry on the tradition of Pharoe.

Visit his Trump buildings and discover the modern Pharoe, still bent on
the old style of stone and gold egyptian tombs, great imposing weath
and the appearance of longevity. And long after his mummified body
has been unearthed, the greath pharoe will walk the earth again, in
the mummy returns, part 23948743. Then he'll try to do the same thing
all over again until the bastard grows up.

5. You got that right !
The man has no taste whatsoever.
His buildings are almost as ugly as his bad rug.

yuck.

(btw... i live 2 blocks from ground zero... and being a neighbor, i want
something radically new and adventurous... not two boring grey office towers)

Trump's idea is DUMB! The same buildings plus one more story just to say a teeeny tiny fuck you to Al Qaeda. :eyes: And the "Freedom" Tower is kitsch that screams "BROKEN!" :eyes:

Nice job, powers that be. Way to think outside the box. :sarcasm:

nuts out of his own bankruptcy fire, he can go back to bloviating about how he's God's gift to the planet.

13. would you please post photos
of all the "ugly" trump buildings?

maybe you don't like glass, or straight lines, but i think most of his buildings are some of the more attractive being built.

14. Has anyone read
about it. I mean really read about the plan? Here's Keith Olbermans article on it. Read it, then tell me you still think it's not a wonderful idea.

The best way - the only way - to further soothe the pain is, as the proponents including Donald Trump are suggesting, to rebuild it as it was. Which brings me to my caveat.

I'd use the original blueprints and design the “new” Trade Center exactly as it had been. But I'd insist that one of the towers be exactly 229 feet, four inches shorter than the other. It's an uncomplicated gimmick to guarantee remembrance. Because, as long as these new towers would stand, someone unaware would ask, “why is one of them shorter than the other?” Whereupon an old-timer could explain, solemnly, that the difference between the heights of the towers is intentional - it's exactly 2,752 inches.

One inch for each of the victims.

It's all the memorial we really need.

16. The problem is who is going to rent space in those targets?
How long will it take to fill enough of the space to justify the expense going into rebuilding them? What is the city going to give away--and to whom--to fill those offices?

19. Goldman Sachs wants to leave Downtown.
Some people want to move the financial center up to Midtown, or even over to New Jersey.

It took twenty years for the towers to fill up the first time, and that was before anyone knew they were a target.

20. Some people
Edited on Wed May-18-05 09:48 PM by GodHelpUsAll2
Some people who?

I don't believe for one minute any building of that scale would sit empty. Anywhere for that matter. I feel quite certain there will be business that would move right in.

And as for the "they are targets" implying that fear would keep people from having offices there. I buy it just like I bought the fears that the airline industry would collapse after 9/11 because people would be afraid to fly. Or that the Luxor in Vegas would fail because people were too superstitious to go in it.

21. As I say, it took twenty years for the towers to fill up when they weren't
known to be targets. The math is kind of straightforward from there.

22. Actually no
it's not that straight forward. You can't really compare 1973 to 2005. As for taking 20 years to fill up, well that I do not know the specifics on. I will have do a little research. That will have to wait until tomorrow. But I will get back with you on on what I find.

For now, I will say good night and I still disagree with you.
