What exactly will Frist do, and what will happen?

1. In a nutshell:

1) A wingnut judge will be nominated and debate opened
2) Democrats will attempt a filibuster (long-winded oratory designed to put off a vote indefinitely, i.e. forever)
3) At some point a Republican senator will raise a point of order that further debate is "dilatory".
4) The president of the Senate (Cheney, if he's there) will sustain the point of order.
5) Democrats will call for a vote to overturn the point of order.
6) If they get a simple majority, the filibuster continues, the judge is out on his rear end.
7) If not, we get a new wingnut-for-life, and the filibuster is dead. Kaput.

3. Yep - there is another version that adds a step

It all depends on how they decide to play it. The end result is the same, however.
