31. Instead of voting "No" on Bolton, Voinovich wants to
Edited on Thu May-12-05 10:16 AM by bear425
send the nomination out of committee without a recommendation to the senate. If this happens, the senate will mostly likely confirm him because of the more Repub than Dem votes there.

If Voinovich voted No in a vote in committee, then it would send the senate the signal that there is not a concensus. Make sense?

edit: It looks like he's going to vote yes without recommendation to get it out of committee.

He said he doesn't want Bolton, but 'doesn't want to impose his views on his colleagues'. He wants to have a vote of the whole Senate. In other words, he's voting Yes in the committee.

So he wimped out, as I see it.

39. "BOLTON can see this info, but a US senator cannot???"
Love it... Biden sounds just like a kid... "Mr BOLTON can see the information but none of us here can??? Mr BOLTON can see this info but a United States Senator cannot???"

"What makes this administration think that it has the right to decide what the US senate needs in order to do its job???" "Who died and left them boss? I don't work for the president of the United States. None of us here works for the president. We are a Co-Equal branch of the US government." We're making a big mistake by not requiring this information. It's a matter of priniciple.

Biden help up Clinton's nomination for Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood, Clinton's first 2 Atty General nominations because it was his constitutional responsibility to bring forth ALL the information - his point is that no administration has the right to tell the senate what information is or should be relevent.

No president is "Entitled" to the appointment of someone he nominates.

He insists that they are entitled to the information they requested.

4 Patterns of behavior that disqualify him from the appt

Removal of intel analysts he disagreed with
Politicizing the intel process
Abusive behavior
Misleading statements to the committee

Now he's talking about the testimony from the witnesses that brought out those traits.

68. Going on and on about problems with the UN
Bolton has a broad deep knowledge of world affairs & has worked on devising strategies for carrying out US policy. Bolton's successes with non-proliferation, got the UN to change resolution in UN equating Zionism with racism.

Says Bolton has placed a lot of thought into his views, won't be swayed by UN bureaucrats, we don't need a mild happy person in the UN, someone who will shake up things there. (very exaggerated caricature).

Claims Townel's testimony was exaggerated and untrue, no compelling reason why Bolton is not the right person, the president HAS selected wisely.

thanking Voinovich for allowing nomination to go to full senate.
