Looks like this needs to get zinged around again:

Damn. Even though it doesn't surprise me, I still find myself stunned.

69. This continues to get more seriously dangerous.
Freedom of speech? the Press?? americans continue to be railroaded by bogus and failure of the american press to be truthful and honest.

Rove has the gall to give us the likes of Gannon/Guckert/? They plant their own Government paid "reporters" into to news briefs Q&A's and fail to tell us how this male prostitute passed a secret service background check??

WE're in for some serious sh*t!!

4. How can ALL the media run like a shool of fish?
I don't get it. CNN/FOX and the big networks, yes. But why isn't this penetrating down to local level?
I haven't seen anything on this in the local news here either, and they DO normally write critical articles on both Bush and Blair.

I'll never trust the mainstream media again.

6. "Locals" are affiliates and "local" papers are part of syndicates
If you look online at "local" papers, you will soon notice that there is very little that is "local" about them.. They get their "news", pre-set for them, with a few "blank" sections for them.. The rest might as well be "copy/paste", whether you are in Podunk, Iowa, or Kansas City, or New Orleans, or Portland...

How could a system like this develop without us noticing the clustering, and see the probable liability of it?

Basically, if it weren't for the blogs and places like this, we would be unaware of what's going on. A lot of people ARE unaware, when you think about it.

Um... wait... I take that back. I CAN believe they're not on this. Because certainly the rove/cheney silencer machine is hard down on ALLL of them.

Just disgusting. Prouder and more relieved every day that I am NO LONGER in the news biz. I would be so ashamed. Hell, I still AM ashamed, and I've been retired since 1996.

But you're correct - it IS up to us. We HAVE to keep on it. We HAVE to create the groundswell. The pros don't want to touch this, probably because they're finding bloody horses' heads in their beds in the morning. So WE have to do the heavy lifting.

If WE give up, the story really is dead. And a lot more Americans and innocent Iraqis will be, also.

Hello Keith, and whoever checks this email address at Countdown. I'm writing because I think you need to cover a story that has NOT been getting adequate media coverage in this country. There is finally documented proof that George W. Bush and Tony Blair agreed to invade and attack Iraq in 2002 long before Congress was asked for approval. Now, I'm going to make this easy for you guys. You won't even have to research this yourselves, just click the links. ;)

Eighty-eight members of Congress call on Bush for answers on secret Iraq war plan http://www.rawstory.com/aexternal/conyers_iraq_letter_502

Memo: Bush made intel fit Iraq policy

(you have to register for this site, but luckily www.bugmenot.com supplied me with a login and password so i dont have to sign up: [email protected], bugmenot)

Keith, whoever is reading this, PLEASE get this story onto the countdown, even if only at #5! You guys were GREAT on the black box voting issue, but this is just as important, if not, even more so.

Sincerely,
, senior high school student and future draftee

13. Probably because they know Shrub may have committed impeachable offenses
This merits an investigation at least--but I drafted some articles of impeachment to kick around (merits a thread on its own, but I'm new here and don't have enough posts to start a thread). Let me know if I missed any:

Resolved, that George Walker Bush, President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and the following articles be exhibited to the Senate:

Articles of impeachment exhibited by the House of Representatives of the United States of America in the name of itself and of the people of the United States of America, against George Walker Bush, President of the United States of America, in maintenance and support of its impeachment against him for high crimes and misdemeanors.

Article 1.

In his conduct while President of the United States, George Walker Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in disregard of his constitutional duties as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the United States and to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, willfully, knowingly and without lawful cause or excuse made false, misleading and deceitful statements to the Congress regarding evidence justifying military action against Iraq.

In doing this, George Walker Bush has brought disrepute upon the Presidency, has undermined the integrity of his office, has betrayed his trust as President and has acted in a manner subversive of constitutional government and the rule of law and justice, to the manifest injury of the people of the people of the United States.

Wherefore, by such conduct, George Walker Bush warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.

Article 2.

In his conduct while President of the United States, George Walker Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in disregard of his constitutional duties as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the United States and to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, actively participated in a conspiracy with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to mislead and deceive Congress and the Parliament of the United Kingdom regarding evidence justifying military action against Iraq.

In doing this, George Walker Bush has brought disrepute upon the Presidency and the United States, has undermined the integrity of his office, has betrayed his trust as President and has acted in a manner subversive of constitutional government and the rule of law and justice, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.

Wherefore, by such conduct, George Walker Bush warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.

Article 3.

In his conduct while President of the United States, George Walker Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in disregard of his constitutional duties as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the United States and to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, knew or had reason to know of a decision by the Secretary of Defense to divert funds appropriated for action in Afghanistan to develop plans for action in Iraq, and failed to prevent this action even though said action was contrary to appropriations as enacted by the Congress.

In doing this, George Walker Bush has brought disrepute upon the Presidency, has undermined the integrity of his office, has betrayed his trust as President and has acted in a manner grossly derelict of his constitutional duties, to the manifest injury of the people of the people of the United States.

Wherefore, by such conduct, George Walker Bush warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.

Article 4.

In his conduct while President of the United States, George Walker Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in disregard of his constitutional duties as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the United States and to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, directed the falsification and fabrication of evidence and intelligence supporting the case for military action against Iraq.

Article 5.

Using the powers of the office of President of the United States, George Walker Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in disregard of his constitutional duties as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the United States and to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has engaged in conduct that resulted in misuse and abuse of his high office and contravened the authority of the legislative branch in that, as President, George Walker Bush communicated to the Congress, as per the requirements of Public Law No: 107-243 (Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002) that military action against Iraq was justified because Iraq gave aid and comfort to the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001; even though George Walker Bush knew the evidence that supposedly supported this determination was false and fabricated.

George Walker Bush, in making this communication to the Congress, assumed to himself functions and judgments necessary to the exercise of the power to declare war expressly vested by the Constitution in the Congress.

17. There are two things that we must keep in mind about our media.
1.They are trained to ignore the obvious, especially facts that cast our rulers in an unflattering light.
2.They have a herd instinct which is completely totalitarian.

Those two facts will go a long way toward explaining why something that is so important to you and me gets the "IGNORE" treatment.

24. Nope. Not that - Nor the "mistaken identity" of al-Libbi either.
Al-Libbi "was never more than a regional facilitator"

The Sunday Times - World
May 08, 2005

Captured Al-Qaeda kingpin is case of ‘mistaken identity’

“Al-Libbi is just a ‘middle-level’ leader,” said Jean-Charles Brisard, a French intelligence investigator and leading expert on terrorism finance. “Pakistan and US authorities have completely overestimated his role and importance. He was never more than a regional facilitator between Al-Qaeda and local Pakistani Islamic groups.”

snip...
No European or American intelligence expert contacted last week had heard of al-Libbi until a Pakistani intelligence report last year claimed he had taken over as head of operations after Khalid Shaikh Mohammad’s arrest. A former close associate of Bin Laden now living in London laughed: “What I remember of him is he used to make the coffee and do the photocopying.”

It is ALWAYS our responsibility to hold these people accountable. That's not just sending an email and wishing for the best. And that's not "reminding people" by sowing seeds of doubt towards our own people and further dividing us one from another - which we all know only benefits the tiny Radical RW cabal screwing the rest of us.

By the way, a week or two ago you gave the Corporate Media a pass in a long, windy thread, saying you weren't going hold them accountable anymore for what does and doesn't get covered, since "Kerry, Obama, Reid, Hillary, and Dean" didn't speak out about whatever was your pet issue at the time. Now you grudgingly admit that the Corporate Media has some responsibility in all this? Is that a flip-flop? <ROTFLMAO>

52. No- I've kept the same position. I cant blame Wolf for what DEMs wont say
I've said and still say I can no longer blame Wolf Blitzer for what Kerry, Dean ,Reid etc does not say.

I cant bitch about Wolf Blitzer (R) not saying bad things about other Republicans- but I can point out that that exists, and point oput that DEMs are not saying what needs to be said.

My point was/is now that we KNOW the media will not repeat our talking points, we need to start looking to the high profile leaders to do repeat DEM talking points- when they dont speak up on a "pet issue" such as this memo, then we need to blame them.

You can turn this around on me all you want- but I'm not the one who is not speaking out and doing all I can do to expose this memo.

"Pet issues!!!" Really now! I'd say that a memo exposing that this war is based on lies is pretty well beyond a pet issue.

I agree that we all need to keep BEGGING the top DEMs to at least talk about this issue-surely they all must know we want this by now.

...out of one side of your mouth, yet you claim that they've definitively "abandoned us" out of the other. Enough said.

I stand by all my statements- They have yet to speak up- and yes- I think they should certainly speak up.

How does that make me inconsistant?

And I read all of BLMs threads.

Thanks for all the advice.

I'll shut up when the Top DEMs decide NOT to shut up.

Just a few paragraphs buried on page 15, and the context was strictly British.

Essentially it's a non-issue as far as MSM is concerned.

43. There was a NYT analysis in my hometown rag yesterday.
Which mentioned leaked memos without saying what was in them. I wrote a letter to the editor with some quotes, just in case they want to inform their readers (LOL). I don't know why, but my letters seem to get published sometimes. I think the paper really wants to get this stuff out but the home office must have the last say, and the home office is in Texas. So I hold out a sliver of hope.

and since then Blair was re-elected, so the press probably doesn't think it's news until the letter from congress starts to get some momentum. A small article appeared in the NY Times last week but also in a British context.

Heck, I thought the challenge of the 2004 election certification would have been covered by the MSM press and it was barely mentioned.

65. CNN Reported it Friday saying "Memo was leaked to a British Tabloid."
Edited on Mon May-09-05 09:03 AM by KoKo01
Meaning that it was commented on as just more "gossip from a Brit rag and we all know (wink, wink) not to take anything from a "tabloid" as serious.

Dismissing it is what Cables will do, but I think it's being mentioned in a roundabout way here and there. The Whore Media is probably reasessing it's positioning on Bush and Iraq right now...waiting for Bolton to be confirmed or not before the ones who want to keep power decide their fortunes will be better if they start to report that the Chimp is in trouble and if he goes down, those who pumped him will go down with him.

As far as CNN and MSNBC is concerned they probably will be the last ones to ever admit that their coverage was biased and that they went for the "RW Audience" because it was in the interest of their bosses to do that. And, we here know that CNN and MSNBC have lots of interests in keeping "war in the ME going."

Just my 2 cents worth on this. But, I sense that our "fence sitting' columnists who have shilled for Bush are beginning to lean a little to the left in their coverage (to cover their butts, or because maybe a few were restrained because they were forced to be and now they feel more free to speak up) The "Secret Memo" ("Pentagon Papers?") is so big that it might take awhile for the pieces to be put together for the American people, but eventually they will get it and the Media will HAVE to get in sync with the people or lose the last ounce of credibility they hope to have.

67. The places to hit with this are the talk radio shows. You have to stealth
your way into the queues but we can do it if we flood the lines. Once on all you have to do is puff up the host (Rush, Hannity) say a few unkind words about Bush bashers and then as a simple question about the memos. Frame the question so as to give the salient points which will give the listeners just enough information to raise some questions in their own minds. Then offer a link if anyone is interested to read the "trash" for themselves. It works all the time.

Yes, I think I understand how many (most?) local papers are owned by or subscribe to syndicated news corporations, but don't they still have the ability (if they had the balls!) to post additional local/state/federal news stories from other sources?

Here in Texas, did the Austin American Statesman paper have anything about the Conyers letter yet??? If not, why not? Who owns/steers/controls the AAS?

I just don't get it - sorry to be dense!

I don't know that he comfirmed it but according to this (source?) his office released the memo which is basically a confirmation, I guess.

The memo, released in full Thursday by Blair's office, confirms reports that Goldsmith warned it would be safer to go to war with a second UN resolution specifically authorizing military action. It also warned that British troops taking part in the conflict could be open to legal action.

93. SAN DIEGO RADIO STATION talks about the MEMO for 30 minutes!
On the morning Stacy Taylor radio show on KLSD 1360, Stacy read portions of the secret “Downing Street”
memo and discussed its implications, mainly the fact that our “President” and his buddy Tony Blair
lied to the nation and Congress in order to force us into war.

There were many callers (myself included) who spoke on the air and thanked Stacy for his brave
coverage of such a hot topic. One caller desperately implored Stacy to simplify the treasonous
implications revealed by the Downing Street secret memo and translate the most poignant facts
into an instantly easy-to-understand fashion so that when he talks about the secret memo on air,
the truth grabs the common man’s attention and fills him with a sense of outrage. After all, this IS
very big news and there “should” be mass public outrage over this shameless treason committed
not only against the people of America, but the ENTIRE WORLD.

I mentioned the article written by Bill Gallagher (a Peabody Award winner and former Niagara Falls
city councilman who now covers Detroit for Fox2 News). As it turns out, Stacy already had a
copy in hand and read portions of it. I don’t remember which parts he read, but here are some
choice clips from the article at http://www.niagarafallsreporter.com/gallagher213.html

"Are Americans so jaded about the deceptions perpetrated by our own government to lead us into
war in Iraq that we are no longer interested in fresh and damming evidence of those lies?"
George W. Bush lied to the world when he said he sought peace in Iraq and war was a "last resort."

All the subsequent moves -- asking for a UN Security Council resolution, more weapons inspections,
Bush's speeches to Congress and the case he presented to the American people -- were all ruses,
hollow lies
. He and his buddy Blair were already committed to war and their words in public were
meaningless. The die was cast.”

I encouraged the KLSD listeners to visit Progressive Democrats of America’s website for a copy of
Will Pitt's press release. If you would like to write a letter of encouragement and thank Bill Gallagher
for the incredible article he wrote, his email address is [email protected]
