Greedy CEO's
I'm so sick of hearing about these rich jerks, do you think the regular employee's got a raise?

Dollar Tree gave CEO 41 percent raise

BY CAROLYN SHAPIRO
THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT
Bob Sasser received a 41 percent annual raise in 2004, when he became chief executive officer of Dollar Tree Stores Inc., according to the company’s latest proxy statement.
Sasser, who is also president of the everything’s-a-dollar retailer based in Chesapeake, received a salary of $649,992 and $277,348 more in bonuses, stock options and company contributions to his retirement and profit-sharing accounts. He took over as CEO on Jan. 1, 2004, from Dollar Tree Chairman Macon F. Brock Jr., whose salary last year dropped 42 percent to $400,008, not including additional compensation of $176,324.
Kent A. Kleeberger joined Dollar Tree in July 2004 as chief financial officer and was paid $186,410 for the half year, plus $92,000 in bonuses and stock options. His predecessor, Frederick C. Coble, received a salary in 2004 of $249,600, slightly less than a 1 percent increase from the prior year, and $101,242 in additional compensation.
The proxy statement, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, lists items that will be put to shareholder vote at Dollar Tree’s annual meeting at 10 a.m. June 16 at the Founders Inn in Virginia Beach.
In an SEC filing in March, Dollar Tree said Sasser would receive a base annual salary of $700,000 in 2005, with a potential bonus of $350,000.

4. 2%...wow...
now you'll be able to get that retirement property you've been dreaming of. :eyes: I guess it's better than nothing, but it's hard to make ends meet when inflation rises faster than wages. Best of luck and I hope one day you'll get what you really deserve. Of course that will take an entire change of direction in governmental and corporate practice, but if Dems ever get control again, it could happen.

6. Wasn't Dollar Tree nailed for...
wage and hour violations a few years ago?

I seem to remember they were paying pretty close to slave wages back then and some agency went after them.

(Back when government agancies actually thought about fighting for the little guy.)

3. If you are interested in executive pay inequity, the AFLCIO web site
has a pretty good take on the issue. If you follow the link "The CEO and you," you can make some comparisons between your salary and your CEO's salary.

5. If Wal-Mart...
took the money they're spending on their PR campaign to tell Americans what a great company they are, and started giving it to employees as wage increases, maybe they wouldn't have an image problem. But I guess that would make sense. Better they keep the slaves tired and hungry than bend to popular opinion. They wouldn't want those uppity slaves thinking they deserve anything more than what they're getting. What complete assholes they are. Wal-Mart is destroying the American way of life.

7. It's unfortunate that...
a CEO will be rewarded for the total profit a company makes, but employees get rewarded, if at all, only for the small contributions they might make.

A CEO can say he wants his share of the 300 million the company made due to his brilliance and management expertise. An employee might try to make the claim that he wants his share of the 10 grand the company made off of him, but will be ignored. (Unless he has a strong union making the claim.)

Productivity gains should be shared with the employees who are more productive, but that's not the way it's happening any more. The payoff is going up, not down.
