It's official - Minutemen gonna patrol Canadian border
WASHINGTON (Hanna Gutmann, BN) 35s. The U-S citizens group known as the MinuteMen that is patrolling the U-S southern border to prevent illegal immigration is going to do the same along the Canada-U-S border. (SOURCE:BN) (645p)

And they are going to be FUCKING bored.

Truly...how long till the Fenians come back.... Canadians should patrol the border and make sure if they cross, we shoot.

Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 11:58 AM by slackmaster
Mostly students that stayed after they dropped out of college and their visas expired, but also a few genuine illegal aliens who snuck across the border. One of them was my girlfriend for a summer.

That it's not just about Mexicans.

Pah. They accomplished nothing at our southern border besides rabble-rousing; they'll accomplish nothing at our northern border but the the same.

20. They "accomplished nothing" (if you mean stopping the flow of illegals)
because they patrolled only 23 miles of the border. The rest of the border is still as open as can be and the illegals simply shifted over to another spot along the border.

If they accomplished nothing but rabble-rousing, good for them. At least they have brought attention to a problem that desperately needs work.

23. First, the Minutemen don't try to arrest anyone, they report suspicious
activities just like any neighborhood watch.

Second, if you would enjoy looking at a murder scene, you have issues that go far beyond the xenophobia that some of the Minutemen are supposed to have.

51. Why do they have weapons?
Because of what you indirectly pointed out in your previous post - drug smugglers and human smugglers who themselves are often armed and not restrained by the law are active at the borders (mostly the southern border). The Minutemen have even been threatened by M-13, one of the most dangerous gangs out there. They have the right to defend themselves if they are threatened.

But there have been no incidents of armed Minutemen threatening or detaining any illegals, despite the naysaying by many here.

When the Minutemen were simply patrolling in Arizona everyone here at DU called them racists who simply wanted to molest Mexicans. Now that they are shifting resources to the northern border and to companies that hire illegals they are called idiots and worse. Looks like they can never be right, in some peoples eyes.

I guess people who want to increase the security of the nation will never get a fair shake from many of the people here.

64. Its been a long, long, long time since World War II
and the only reason that Canada was part of that fight first was because it was dragged along as part of the British Empire. And since then there have been security matters (such as NORAD) in which Americans have had to pay an unfair amount of sweat, blood, and treasure. But I guess you think that Canada would have been immune from Soviet missles, because Canadians are just so much less goshdarn arrogant than Americans are.

You still haven't told me why having a few hundred citizens observing from their side of the border is so intimidating. Almost every other nation in the world patrols its borders with other nations with actual military, and 99.9% of the time this is not considered a threat. I personally think that patrolling the northern border will be mostly a waste of time, but I still don't understand your outrage at having American citizens patrolling on American soil.

And why does a southern border pose any more of a threat than the northern border, or vice versa? Personally, I don't think either one does.

75. You said it.
The Minutemen are spotlighting something * & Co are ignoring solely for the sake of business interests. EVERYONE-Americans and Mexicans-are totally exploited by how * & Co are turning a blind eye to the problem. Get it? NO ONE WINS but BUSINESSES-period. Mexicans aren't living high on the wages they are paid and-agree with it or not-these wide open borders have substantially driven down wages for Americans. But if you're living a cushy life with no financial worries that doesn't matter does it?! :eyes:

For the Minutemen to go to Canada is just them simply making a point-that the borders are NOT secure. People can come and go at will-whatever nationality they may be. I really don't get why people turn this into a racial issue-it's absolutely positively not!!! To say that people who are coming and going like this is okay and that their rights come before the people who are actually legally here is so very very wrong. :grr:

106. Not sure I understand your question
Do you mean why was her presence illegal, or what was her motivation for entering and staying in the USA illegally as opposed to doing so legally?

She snuck across an unpatrolled area of the border in Washington State, hitchiked to Southern California, and took up residence here without doing the paperwork.

29. yea, put 'em on the alaska/canda border
A winter up thar'll show 'em what cold and dark is. Arizona is just
a tad warmer. Perhaps if they're wusses, and can only handle the summer
they should be invited up to experience the north canadian mosquito.

:-) ha! Those mosquitos would eat a man a minute.... and then they'll
earn their names.

"The Minuteman organizers estimated it would take $4 billion and two years to secure the Mexico border and $8 billion and three years on the Canada border. They suggested the U.S. government supplement border patrol agents with military or National Guard troops"

You can tell they didn't even do research "Border is twice as long... so we'll need twice as much money."

Buzz Windrip didn't need the Minute Men on the Mexican border, because we INVADED Mexico.

The MM were everywhere in the north. You couldn't even try going down a deer-path into Canada without getting nabbed by one of those thugs.

Who they trying to kid? Just trying to "prove" that "it ain't th' Messicans, it's ALL illegals!"

Or they're laying ground work to keep US in.

82. Christ... is there REALLY a problem on the Canadian border???

For about a year and a half, the US Border Patrol has had a checkpoint set up about 100 miles SOUTH of the Canadian border on I-87 in upstate NY. I've passed through it several times (and bypassed it via US Rt 9 many more times) and they always ask, in the rudest manner possible, if I have people in the back of my van (panelled service van I use for work). It leads me to two questions:

1) Is there an immigration issue between Canada and the US?

2) If it's important enough to block I-87, then why do they leave US Rt 9 (which runs parallel to I-87) wide open??

It's way more fun to harass brown people. This is their pathetic attempt to appear mainstream.

So now they're at the Canadian border. I would like to see what happens if people start immitating them like they did at the Mexican border. Do you think if some asshole takes 7 Canadians hostage and makes them lay face down in the dirt at gunpoint that he'll be acquitted of all charges like the other guy?

86. I really HOPE that I am just being paranoid...
...but the repeal of the Assault weapons ban, the re-selection of the most militant president since Teddy Roosevelt or James Madison, the recent need for passports to enter the USA from Canada, and now armed USAsians patrolling a border that had hitherto been "open???"

I live 10 minutes from the border...I have a couple of hunting rifles, but what use is a 303 or 12-gauge going to be against those armed with semi-automatic handguns, fully automatic Uzis or AK-47s???

Frickin' 1812 all over again...

I'm gonna cry now...Actually, I think I will load my guns first, then cry some...
