Was anyone else offended and outraged to see Jeb Bush
on his knees before the pope, kissing his ring ? He was not there as a Catholic, but on our dime representing our nation.

3. You're kidding me...Representatives of the American government
are NEVER supposed to bow to ANYONE! Not the queen of England, not the Dali Lama, and certainly not the pope. Hell, we don't even DIP OUR FLAG at the Olympics!

5. Well, call me old fashioned, but it's just weird seeing an American guy
kneeling down before another guy dressed in gold lame. What the Hell was Jeb saying to the Pope and why was he smiling? But then again, I am from the provinces (which is to say, anywhere other than NYC).

11. Maybe that's what he was saying, "Ouch, oh this hurts, hurt me some more..
..feels so good." Well, maybe he borrowed those lines from big bro.

kneeling in front of a priest?

The imagery is a bit humorous, at least. :)

14. Eh. He's Catholic, so that's the done thing on meeting a Pope.
Doesn't offend or outrage me. What DOES bother me is the fact that the governor of the state of Florida is representing the US. There's no reason or precedent for that; the only reason he got sent was because he's Junior's brother.

15. I was uncomfortable with this
I saw this on television. My friend who was watching TV with me was shocked. If he was Catholic it might have been understandable. But he is not Catholic so I just could not understand what he was doing on his knees. The whole scene made me very uncomfortable.

18. Uh, he is Catholic. He converted when he married Columba.
But, he was representing the US in Rome! Ya' know, "separation of church and state", etc. :eyes:

19. I think he converted to Catholicism;
presumably in accordance with his wife's religious affiliation.

As for bowing and scraping before a dude in gold lame? It disturbs me too, but that apparently goes with the religion. But, IF he was there in any official capacity, doing that "might" violate a federal law (or a long established custom). Perhaps a Google-search might give me the answer to that.

In any event, lets make sure that Dubya's Bob Jones type base gets plenty of copies of that picture.

22. Kissing the Pope's ring?
Heck, that's a tad bit better than kissing the asses of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and James Dobson. Or are the RWs busy kissing someother part of the male anotomy?
