2. If they vote to end the filibusters
I hope the Dems have the guts to shut down D.C. It's better to shut down D.C. than swallow the radical agenda of this administration.

5. but remember...
in 1995 (I think it was) Rs got the blame for shutting down the government. If we do the same, we will only look like obstructionists bent on destroying Bush, painting liberals to be even more extreme...

I can't see us winning this issue; most Americans just won't care about 10 judicial nominess...

6. Ten years ago we weren't fighting a war under false pretenses
running up huge deficits and screwing the poor and middle class for the benefit of the rich. This government deserves to be shut down.

8. i agree....
these are different times. But the average American will view shutting down the gov't as a bad thing and blame those who are doing it. That is my only point.

10. There's a difference between shutting down the government
There a difference between shutting down the government and stopping the Senate from conducting its business. And the Republicans can get cracking on the nation's business anytime they want to: Quit trying to ram through confirmation of the ten extremist judges.

Such as, Social Security will be funded, Medicare will be funded, money for our troops will be provided, Federal Employees will be paid but the repukes will be UNABLE to further their radical agenda in the Senate. IT WILL BE DEAD IN THE WATER! :bounce: No more shit bills will be passed if they pull the Nuclear Option. They will be finished. Period.

DO IT! I cannot WAIT! :bounce:

16. the average American has been polled and believes this is a mistake
that there should be checks and balances, They may see the Democrats as trying to save democracy. So are they worried about 37% of the voters out there that think that the filibuster should be done away with? That 37% of the voters polled would feel they were obstructionists?

STAND FIRM ...WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU!

19. I cannot understand the change from 1998:

Poll: Clinton's approval rating up in wake of impeachment
December 20, 1998
Web posted at: 10:48 p.m. EST (0348 GMT)
(AllPolitics, December 20) -- In the wake of the House of Representatives' approval of two articles of impeachment, Bill Clinton's approval rating has jumped 10 points to 73 percent, the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll shows.

That's not only an all-time high for Clinton, it also beats the highest approval rating President Ronald Reagan ever had.

At the same time, the number of Americans with an unfavorable view of the Republican Party has jumped 10 points; less than a third of the country now has a favorable view of the GOP.

What happened?

13. It's shutting down the Senate, not the government.
When the Republicans shut down the government, public offices were closed, national parks shut down--I can't remember, but I think even the post office stopped for a few days. These are all things people use and notice.

Shutting down the Senate won't affect anybody directly, in an everyday sense.

20. Shutting down the Senate is not the same as the govt.
When the GOP shut dowm the government, they shut down federal offices that people deal with on a daily basis. They put a lot of federal employees out of work as well. That hits home.

Shutting down the Senate basically puts a hundred rich guys out of work. The government still functions.

Big difference.

9. Harry Reid says they will
The senate is going to come to a standstill if they use the nuclear option. If we frame this right, Bush and Frist will be seen as incredibly weak and arrogant by the country.

17. The only people working in the Senate if the Dems shut it down
will be the Clerk and his assistants -reading the minutes of the previous day

It will be mind numbingly boring- and Reid and every other Democrat better be out there framing every day why it came to this
