Where can I get DETAILED radio ratings?
Is there a magazine I need to subscribe to?

I found some info here:
http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRRatings/DetailsPage.aspx?MID=184&RY=2005&RQ=1&MP=2&OTHER=2&MN=New%20York&MS=NY&MR=1&12P=15283100&UP=3/28/2005&SU=CM&BPER=17.5&HPER=19.1&OPER=&NSD=4/25/2005&CE=0

But I'd like to see Rush Limbaugh's number in New York City, 25-54 demographic vs. Al Franken's.

1. Basically you have to purchase it from Nielson
The true breakdowns of the numbers are generally held pretty tightly by the radio statios. At best you'll get the broad numbers.

4. Nielson = Television, Arbitron = Radio.
Goog luck getting the numbers, you'd have to buy a subscription from Arbitron, and it isn't cheap, OR find someone in radio who is willing to show you the 'books'.

But I know how you can influence your local markets, by joining Arbitron ratings at:
http://www.arbitronratings.com/

We should all do it, this would definitely boost ratings for Air America, and people like Bernie Ward and Ray Tagliaferro!
I don't think Amy Goodman would count however, but I am not sure...

6. I checked the link, but it seems you have to be contacted by them FIRST!
There is no such thing as joining, that I can find there. It says, if you found this web site, you probably already received the call to do a diary for a week.

8. I kept a diary for Arbitron once.
They sent me the material in the mail. One for me and one for my husband. We had to keep a detailed diary of what we listened to every hour. We sent them back in a weeks time. They included a dollar bill for our trouble. Unfortunately that was before AAR. I'd love to do it again.
We didn't volunteer, we were chosen somehow.

3. Arbitron only sells it's ratings at that level of detail.
You can visit the Arbitron site to get some general info, though.

7. Arbitron is very expensive and is not sold to individuals. Radio stations
have to subscribe to it before they can use it as a selling tool.

If someone that works at a radio station showed an individual the numbers and that individual used them on the web, I don't know if they would get in trouble or not.

My guess is that they would.

Arbitron is VERY zealous about their "product."

10. In our area newspaper
after the final ratings come out each period, they'll do a little article and list them. Maybe check your area newspaper archives.

11. I once tried to find
the justification of Rush's 20 million listeners. Turns out it's very convoluted, having to do with listeners for 5 minutes within 15 minute periods counted on a daily basis, but aggregate for a week. Arbitron doesn't even list actual numbers just shares of the radio listeners.
Bottom line is 20 million seperate people a week DO NOT listen to Rush!
