Mona Charen on C-Span said there "aren't even 250,000 homeless in US"
(and she stated that Ann Coulter is "beautiful and funny.")
She also doesn't believe that there are any homeless veterans. I can hardly believe my ears. She's also riffing on the "Terri Schiavo's husband killed her" topic. Uh oh, a caller is ripping into to Mona's statements on Liberalism.

2. I had to turn her off.
How can such statements sail past unchallenged? If they are true show me.

"Got a link Mona?"

7. There are hundreds of homeless people in my little southern city.
There is a Salvation Army shelter as well as another non-profit homeless shelter and a battered womens' shelter. There are encampments of homeless who live in the woods by the rivers that run through the city. There are many homeless who hang out downtown nearby a major public university. Because my town is the progressive, urban "hole" in a "doughnut" comprised of conservative, rural counties, the homeless and AIDS patients from surrounding areas are drawn here.

Mona must simply choose to ignore the facts. Obviously, she is an educated and articulate woman yet she has travelled about as far to the right as is possible. She is truly scary.

Actually I just wanted to use the word "umbrage" in a sentence. Thanks.

6. Mona Charen
is an idiot. Part of the Repub's problem (if they have one at this point) is that morons like Charen are their spokespeople. Aren't there any intelligent Repubs left? There used to be plenty of them. Intelligent political discussion used to be possible. No longer.

of the discussion. I'm thinking of people like Alan Simpson of Wyoming. We could agree to disagree with him on certain issues like abortion and still discuss econmomics, defense, education etc. in a logical and meaningful way. This is not to say that I could agree with Simpson on most of his views. I'm saying you could have an actual discussion/debate with him.

14. Yes, All Rational Discussion Ends When Religious Dogma Is Injected...
How can you argue with someone about something they read in a book written by men but they believe to be written by some sort of sky god whom they've never seen but still believe exists because someone told them that it did...

It reminds me of an old comedy record..."It's in the book.." If it's in the book you dasn't argue with it....Trouble is...everything is in the book and anyone can interpret stuff and find stuff in there to support their own prejudices...

tippy toeing around certain topics with certain people because you're afraid you're going to offend them or worse, lose them as a friend or compatriot.

10. These people live in an alternate universe
One thankfully that I am not part of.
I think she considers someone owning a box on a sidewalk as a home.
These people are so vile.

I used to go to downtown Dallas and take our shoes and bags of clothing that we didn't wear anymore--tie the shoestrings together, and leave them on the sidewalk in the most homeless populated areas.
The stuff was usually gone in minutes. We did the same thing in the winter with blankets.
Homeless bashing is very rampant in Dallas and very little is done about it. Not sure if this is a problem in other places or not.
These animals go around to people sleeping and hit them over the head and try to kill them. I guess that is their solution to the problem.

11. Once I Heard She Was Going To Be On...I Stopped the TiVo...
I knew I didn't want to subject myself to that...She is, luckily, a hasbeen....She used to be prominent on Capital Gang and other venues. Now she is rarely seen, thank goodness.

I did watch about 5 minutes and she thinks she is "moderate". That shows how out of touch she is.

13. It's Fascist Friday...
Brian's inviting his fave on, as always...a whole hour with a Charen or Coultergeist or other Right Wing shill...and of course you won't see a similar hour given to a Joe Connason or Michael Moore. He'll find a DINO and somehow that shows this program is "balanced".

This lady's obviously been at too many drinkie drinkie parties (with Brian and his ilk) and never bothered to see what the "little people" do. If anything, she's probably the type who sees a homeless person sleeping in a doorway and calls the cops as though his sleeping is a crime and it's his fault he got that way.

The part that got me was how she said "Liberals" must be willing to realease our hard-line views while the Repugnicans should be proud of being the party of exclusion, segregation, religious intolerance, class warefare and political corruption. She bitched how "we" (as though "Liberals" are some monolithic group) have never changed our views on welfare (bullshit...what was the reform Clinton pushed through in '96???) and that somehow when you help a poor person, it's automatically assumed they'll be major drains on the tax system. But, of course, she'll never mention the billions her corporate masters make in their own little welfare program that cheats all of us. Hypocrite!

Gotta give Regnery and the other Right Wing "presses" their due. They keep cranking out books that give these shows a reason to book these assholes and creates a legitimacy for their ignorant and arrogant missives. Even when they're confronted with facts and truth, they are so good at lying and believe those lies...including Brian...it's dismissed.

One last rant...I'm soooooo sick of Repugnicans and others attempting to read my mind and tell my how I think about issues or how I should look at others. That somehow they have some golden wisdom that none of us are privvy to. Do me a favor, save your "advice"...25 years of it has led this country to the major mess it is now.

20. Wal-Mart Has Openings...
This babe had "preppy" written all over her. Looks like from a nice, wealthy family...was little princess in school, homecoming queen in high school and her biggest struggles were in people living up to her expectations. Shallow and it truely shows. Sadly she's spawned.

She's the type that thinks since most major cities have "swept" the homeless out of places where they're seen (airports) where the high-brows like her see, that since they're not there anymore, they don't exist.

She'll never suffer a day in her pampered life. Bets are she's been a good girl all these years, has the nice house, car, annuities and will never have to worry about making the money last the month. Sadly, she said, she used to think she was alone in many of her thoughts and now is in the "mainstream". I think she's right.

25. know what struck me?
when she said that she filled her first tax return at the age of 22. Everyone I knew had a job either after schools, or definitely for the summer. And they were usually very low-paying, menial jobs that at least taught you the value of a buck AND of an education.
She probably didn't have to ever work at a job where you would at least develop some empathy for the chambermaid cleaning her hotel room, or the waitress serving her dinner, or the bellhop lugging her designer luggage, etc.

She came off as very out-of-touch, elitist and arrogant - -and yet, remarkably, ANGRY, as if she's been crapped on in life!

26. Great Observation
She sounded so detached and obviously ignorant of the true concept of compassion. It goes against everything she's grown up with and lives for. Her appearance wasn't to promote a better world...it was to pimp a book that enhances her "status" in the small fishbowl she lives in. She's far more in need of Brian Lamb's approval than any viewer or caller and still she's angry.

I tend to see this as the "barbarians at the gate" theory. These bluebloods fear those who want what they have or percieve they have. Since they have no soul and view everything in materialistic terms, that's how they fight back. She personifies the class warfare the Repugnicans and right wing claim doesn't exist.

Cheers

27. Yes, she played the victimhood line of the Repressive Party
quite well. I'm going to have to google some government statistics on the homeless. Since it's the Bush Admin who's in charge, she would be hard pressed to argue it's false and misleading...no?

That she doesn't believe there are even 250,000 people homeless in America only shows her willingness to put her head in the sand. She likely also believes poverty is not a problem in the US. Of course, she puts a higher level of credibility on the WSJ editorial page than a reporter from the WaPo...so why did her comments not surprise me.

And I thought that she was a step above Ann Coulter for sure. I could actually listen to her. Disagree, sure, but I could listen without getting hopping mad at her. I don't mind the opposition when the opposition is like that.

28. I got into an email flame war with Charen
a couple of years ago. She's very, very thin-skinned. I emailed her after a particularly odious column, riddled with errors and hysterical blather. She wouldn't leave it alone. Kept sending me strident, badly written email.
Then I sent her condolences when her son had a bicycle accident in the driveway of her home. (he's fine). She calmed down.
I was tempted, but didn't--better nature for once coming into play, to point out that if the same accident had occurred on a liberal mother's watch, she would have been the first to scream about how neglectful feminazi mothers are.
Then, she'd blame Hillary.
Good news is the Atlanta Constitution quit carrying her column. So, she's pretty easy to avoid.
