Why did George and Laura go to Rome for John Paul's funeral?

I thought it odd that Bush would stir himself for something that he always avoids.At first my inclination was to think that there may be some political agenda behind it. Now as I learnt that Neil and Benny the Rat were pals on some tax shelter scheme about a religious foundation,I have come to believe that Bush was there to twist some arms to get all to vote for Benny's election as the new Pope. That way the March of Folly can continue with a religious imprimatur.

I have not been there but heard there was a quiz of sorts to determine how much in line one is with the American bishops. I guess Kerry was in line 65 percent of the time and george -50.
