The Iraq Invasion is Reality TV for the culture of death
Keeps us in a nice state of thrills and spills.

This is nothing you haven't heard before.

Bush 1 managed to hone the concept of virtual reality in regard to Bush War 1, with little sign of the aftermath of the attacks, especially in human terms. The American people got to see lots of bright lights and explosions through bomb cameras, with complete disconnect, except for the "threat" Saddam posed. Tension, release. Quite the video game.

Come to think of it, Saddam didn't pose much of a threat back then either, in terms of attacking anyone but his closest neighbors.

Come Bush War 2, we don't even get to see the bodies of our own countrymen being returned from their ultimate sacrifice. This sigifies the shame they must know, and an attempt to sweep it under the rug, for these men and women to lose their lives in a long-term grab for resources (not even going to mention the possible religious aspects).

I saw a bumper sticker a few days ago asking if America were addicted to war. We're certainly addicted to the amusement park no-risk thrills of threat and resolution, far far away. It's a little adrenaline high, and Orwell must have well known about it too, regarding "1984". Oh yes.

So can we vote these people off the island and get back to American Idol?

(Thanks to the music group Consolidated for pointing out the VR aspect, the first place that I heard it mentioned. As the magazine editor said, industrial music thrives under Republican rule.)
