How many pro-occupation DU'ers have lost a family member in Iraq?

Nor do I have any family member who served.

I met one guy.

I expect there are a couple of reservists I have met that went, but I don't know.

Fact is, Bush has successfully limited the death and mayhem to a small class of politically powerless or politically duped people, and protected people like me so's I don't get too upset. He's an incredible dick.

Its painful to watch people flinch, conflicted, or worse drone on the media siren song about this and that as they try to take the bad in the best way possible.
What is completely UNACCEPTABLE, is to see people make the "compassionate conqueror/goodly godly" white man's well worn argument that its better for the
"civil war prone"(?) descendants of one of the oldest living civilizations that we remain to curtail unimaginable, but clearly unavoidable inevitable bloodshed that would surely follow any departure of the socially superior newborn society aka Amuricans.
YET, nobody gives word one of lip service to the real result of US casualties. It doesnt end quickly, it aint over when the taps play.
Its not done when the dirts shoveled. Its only just begun at that point, but how would you know if the media wont show the end result, or if you havent lived through it. The only real knowledge is what you dont know, so acting the wise man is for fools most often.

3. This is one of those 'stats will say anything' questions. 1700 people

have been lost in Iraq. There are over 200,000 Americans. The army is filled with people from poor neighborhoods who may be out working right now. Who may not have a computer. Who may not be educated and therefore are intimidated by political bulletin boards.

I don't think that many DUers are for the war in Iraq.. so much as they just do not want to see the whole place blow up into anarchy because it has been destabilized. It would be criminal to walk in, mess it up, and then leave before an army is in place to control things. Iraq is an oil producing nation and that means untold of wealth for any elite that can get power away from a democracy. (kinda like the rich in the USA today). 100,000 Iraqis have died and that many and probably more Iraqis will die if the USA & the UN leave before it can take over.

That does not mean that the whole UN should not have gone in in the 1980s to stop Saddam from genocide. That does not mean that the USA should have a base in Iraq.

Just means that we owe it to the Iraqis to stay until their security can be guaranteed by their own dam people. They need to be stronger.

I know let's see.....5....no, 6....people who have served an Iraq. And an alum of my high school died there.

Anyway, this is a pointless question. By your standard, only 50,000 or so people would have a say on this issue.

Me, personally, I am very conscious of the fact that none of MINE are getting hurt. You are in a different position, clearly, but I do believe that Bush has made sure that his call for sacrifice isn't being made to me. I don't even pay for it! One hundred percent of the cost is going to future generations as debt.

If this war cost most Americans more than the cost of a magnetic ribbon, it would be done by now, right or wrong. Bush thinks its wrong to end it, so he does what he does. I just don't want to let my good times cloud my judgment.
