Kerry "outing" CIA analyst in senate hearing
I need some help finding the info about this person that Kerry supposedly "outed" during the senate hearing recently. There was info, I recall, on a few threads that showed this person was all ready "out" publically and wasn't even under cover anyway. I remember reading all this, but need some detail and hopefully links to other publications where this guy was already publically named.

I'm having a bit of a ruckus with a freeperish dumbass who obviously gets their news from right-wing publications (and therefore has no freakin' clue what the hell is really going on in the world).

Sorry to ask, but I'm not all that good at computer stuff, and haven't had much luck searching on my own.

Thanx.

1. Never heard of this until now.
Any info that can be provided about it?

Has John Kerry even been in the senate hearing room? When did this take place?

2. Media Matters clears it up.
The CIA analyst has been publicly identified for at least 3-4 years (according to documentation in the following citation).

4. in that case..
"The CIA analyst has been publicly identified for at least 3-4 years (according to documentation in the following citation)."

Hmm.. so we can definitely expect Scarborough, Limbaughtomy, and O'Lielly to come out and attack Kerry for this scurrilous crime against federal law, simply because it's only OK ...

... if you're a Republican!

Never mind that the agent Kerry mentioned had already been outed for years and no law was breached.

6. Lugar said it first THAT DAY
So, even if not in the press, LUGAR outed him - not Kerry. (The bigger question is whether it's wise to use the alias in open session when they're quoting from documents with the name not redacted - seems an accident ready to happen.)

3. There were at least 4 times Mr. Armstrong's name had been exposed
prior to that hearing. LUGAR used his name BEFORE Kerry did.

The Washington Times-owned Insight on the News identified Armstrong as the NIO who was “coordinating” Bolton’s speech in September 2002.

The New York Times published a story about efforts by Otto Reich to pressure Armstrong in January 2003.

A Wall Street Journal opinion piece accused Armstrong of a “lackadaisical approach to a mounting body of disturbing evidence” about threats to the United States from Cuba and Venezuela in March 2003.

Salon mentioned Armstrong, again by name, as an analyst who had been smeared as ” somehow under the influence of the Cuban government” in January 2004.

5. Debunked within hours

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee was talking about a CIA analyst and calling him, "Mr. Smith". Early in the hearing Senator Lugar accidentally called him be his name. Later Kerry reading from earlier (closed door testimony), innocently slipped and read his name. The name had already been in the newspapers and magazines concerning this altercation with Bolton.

So, as the name was in the press, neither Senator "outed" anyone. If the name were not out, it would still have been Lugar who outed him -because he slipped first. (Even if it were not in the press, neither Senator could be charged with anything as it was speech in the Senate, also it was clearly unintentional in both cases. So at most it would have been embarrassing.)

There was at least one Fox show (Gibson), described here, where it was compared to Plame (the INTENTIONAL outing for revenge of an agent) and where the press mentions and Lugar were conveniently ignored.

But Kerry did nothing illegal, unethical, or wrong. (The RW simply loved it because Kerry was involved.)
