1. Not merely should they be treated with respect, it would be good to

realize that they live the American ideals of hard work, family and perseverance better than we do.For that we should be grateful.

5. I was watching some of our Mexican workers the other day on a house

they were building in our neighborhood, putting shingles on a roof as early as 5:30 AM. When I talked with some of them, they said they do it every day of the week except sunday and work 16 hours a day.I asked them why they do it and don't you get tired.They shrugged their shoulders and said, "Money.We need the money to send back to our family". There was absolutely no trace of anything amiss in any of this.They simply had to do it.When I told that to my children, the typical spoiled American brats, their response was" Why should they send money to their family?Can't their family find jobs for themselves?" I knew then that we have lost something of immense value in our country.The values the Mexican people now show are the same values that brought my Italian father to this country with his young bride more than sixty years ago.

I am grateful for the presence of our Mexican guests.They show us how we have lost our way through our arrogance and pride.

6. large Hispanic population here in K.C.

very hard working people, i've met a lot of them, some here illegally, some naturalized. americans have no clue what awful conditions they come from to be here, and no clue how hard they work. i see hundreds of them in the kitchens of all the local restaurants, in fact, i'd guess 70 percent of the kitchen workers around here are mexican.

i've made poor attempts at learning spanish, but am still trying to learn some basic words and phrases. i just feel we all ought to, cause they are here, and millions more are coming.

the conservatives who piss and moan about illegal immigrants coming in from mexico, utterly disregard their own immigrant history.

they are american assholes.

7. I don't know whether they cost Americans jobs or not...

... and I think it's important to get an honest, factual answer to that question. That way we can either:

A. Get serious about controlling illegal immigration

or B. Get HUMANE! about allowing folks in to do these jobs with out risking their lives scrabbling across a desert! Ackowledging that they are a part of our society, and deserve better than the cruelty and exploitation they currently endure.
